85 200X Shifting problem

Hey ya'll just got my 85 200X....It wont go into gear. The shifter moves freely, but wont engage it seems like. The clutch also feals like everything is in proper working order. I am gonna tear it down next week, but was curious if anybody else had the same problem so maybe it would make mine an easier fix. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've got a similar problem on my '85 200X. The problem is getting it in 1st gear. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. The rest of the gears are fine as far as I can tell. I have the kickstart problem that others have too. The internal gears are worn. I guess this is a common problem so you might want to check that out when you tear it down.

I found a shift mech and replaced mine and it solved my whole problem.I had torn down the engine and replaced a shift fork only to find out the problem was in the mech in the left side cover.Hopefully this helps:D

Sweet, That is what I was gonan try first. How much did you pay for the shifting Mechanism?

I bought a junk bike for $100 but i would say about $30 for a used one.It solved my problem ;)
