I want it chromed, Where should I take it to have that done? While Im there Brian wants the swinger done also. What is a fair price. Im done with elbow grease On this, so Im taking it in.

Next question. When I pulled my brake hub off, I pulled with it a silver metal band that looks like it belongs under the brake hub? I destroyed this piece along with the hub, and was wondering where I could achieve this piece? The best I can tell it is NOT the dust deal. Thats a different piece that I also destroyed....am I missing something here? I look at partsfish and am having trouble identifying this metal band. Thx Jen

that stainless steel ring is pressed on the brake hub it is where the seal runs ,, your new should have one on it ,,,if not you will have to have it made ..it is not a seperate part,,,

Chrome...

I have had alot of things chromed in the past and as a rule it is not cheap. The reason is because there is alot of labor involved in the striping and polishing and repolishing before the chrome is applied

If there's a chrome shop around your area you could find out if they will let you do some or most of the polishing to keep the labor cost down. (most shops wont)

Pricing: Having a shock swingarm chromed in Orlando Florida would cost around $150-300 and the axle would cost at least $100 but may be as high as $200

I have found that buying chrome parts from ebay are cheaper then having the chroming done here in Florida. Its like paying for the chrome and getting the part free.

I have also had many things chrome plated in cali. For some reason shops in cali are less expensive then the rest of the country. and they will chrome aluminum which no shop here will do.

Note: Chrome shops will sometimes give you a break if you have a lot of things to get chromed. ( There is a guy at 3WW who is haveing a lot of chrome work done on a 350x, you might give him an email)

Here is the number of the shop by my house in Orlando 407-719-9855

Good luck

Thx guys!! Sandrooster I already have the hub thankyou tho (Oh and Brian Said thx too it was easier then he thought it would be to cut it. He didnt touch the axle at all, tho at one point he thought for sure he cut it too.)....This is the first time I have ever been into the axle and carrier so I am sorry for some of the weird questions.

WE have changed our plans....But I can tell you all the bearings were fine.. :bash: Well They arent anymore...But I now know why the complete or Partial seizure..and lets just say the brake hub was just the start of something prettier...........SO Who wants to sell me an 86 250r swingarm? OR does the trx250r Fit? Any and all info for that conversion would be appreciated. thx Jen

Jen, I can't remember if you have an 85 or 86 ATC250R. If you have an 86, an 86 or 87 TRX swingarm will fit without any hassle. If you have an 85, the same TRX swingarms will still fit, but the rear axle carriers/brakes are different. The aluminum swingarms on the 88-89 TRX's will not fit.

I have the 85, but I was aware that I would have to change out the whole thing. Just wasnt sure what would fit. Now I know Thx so much...Jen

If you chrome the axle make sure to tape the axle were the bearings ride.If you dont the axle wont fit the bearing anymore.

Well, we figure the price of the chroming vs buying new and decided to buy new. But no one seems to have 85 axles or aftermarket carriers except one that the hubby didnt like. So that leaves me to go to an 86 swinger and upgrade from there since my options kinda open up way more...We have umm done a little more damage, which of course is fixable and rideable...But he said I could have the new stuff....So there I am:headbang: :D

What brand of axle are you buying?

I missed the story on what broke and brought you to this point. Got the link?

And below is the pict of the rest. Critisize, compliment, and any advice appreciated thx. I am basically gonna clean this stuff up and ride till I have all my replacement parts ready to go.(hopefully by this summer) The stuff is still useable, and frankly I want to ride my new toy.

Jen,
Tell us what was wrong with the rest of the swingarm/axle that you can't just replace bearings and seals to ride.

Sandrooster, Thats what I said. Im gonna slap it all together, ride it till I get my replacement parts. Its all still useable. Just not perfect. We went searching for new carrier and we didnt like the availability for the 85', So I am gonna upgrade to the 86'. Hopefully by this summer. Jen

P.s a list of damage..
axle is mushroomed,
carrier is broke at the adjustment end, and shows signs of needing replacement, (shallow cracks inside)
Axle rust pitted on inside along with spacer and others (nothing some good strong grease cant handle)
dings here and there caused by us..
Nothing incredibly majoR.
