As the name implies right now my main trike is an 84 Yamaha Yamauler.:headbang: I basically traded my 84 Big Red 200es for the Yamaha, because it looks better, and just personaly preference I guess. But after reading both this forum, and the one over at 3ww, I don't know what I want.
I am from Canada, where we get many feet of snow each winter, and have lots, and lots, and lots of mud to play in in the spring, summer, and fall. I ride year round, regardless what's on the ground, the snow just makes it slicker. I am looking for the perfect trike for me, something with decent ground clearance, because many trails I ride, are full of the fun stuff like rocks, and trees fallen over, some suspension, as I am not big on jumping, but if there is a jump I will hit it, something that can take on the thickest mud or stream, and some huevos. There are no sand dunes near where I would ride, mostly just dirt roads, snowmachine trails, which are great in the summer, minus the fact that sometimes they cross a swamp which would be frozen over in the winter, the occasional field or gravelpit, and mud. I am looking for a trike that would best suit my needs. I know nothing is going to be perfect, and I know this is asking alot but a nice combination would do. Any advice, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and once you suggest something, then you guys get to help me find one for sale or trade for a Yamahauler! Thanks alot in advance folks.

I'd go with either a 250sx for the electric start and reverse or a 350x for the ultimate torque and good suspension.

if you want to stay with the lower cc's go with a yamaha 225DX coz they also have an electric start and they are shaft driven and if you want reverse get a 225DR, they are both rugged and handle well. if you want something with a little more power than that get a 250 big red they arent fast like a 250r but they are cool and have a lot of features. if you want a lot of speed and a ton of power get a 350x, they have a kick start but i heard they are hard to start, i dunno tho, i've never rode one. So i think that the best trike for your terrain would be a 225DX/DR or a 250 big red

I'd go with the 250SX and a good set of mud tires... sounds like you really slog through the mud/snow up there. The 350X would have more power but I think you'd like the electric start and reverse of the SX.

i was gonna say if you do a lot of slower riding on trails and stuff and you go through mud which would make your tires spin try and find something water cooled
After considering the terrain, The 250sx is a good trike, But the BigRed 250es has a little more clearance. Taller Tires 23 inch i think. The ES is utility. the SX sport utility.

tires will end up being more important than model, most likely.
Put another way, the perfect trike with crappy tires would be less useful to you than the right tires on whatever trike.
If you spend a lot of time hopping over logs and slogging through tough terrain, you want to consider whether you want a manual clutch (200x, 250sx ), or an auto-clutch model, like a big red.
It's personal preference, I guess - for rough terrain, I'd go with the auto-clutch myself . . lets you concentrate on body position and traction and not worry about bogging or killing it. Also lets you use your left hand and arm for moving branches or just grabbing the bar for balance. Of course, trade off is less performance once you're out of the tight stuff.
But, whichever you end up on, tires will be the key. I've currently got two trikes of the same model, one with good tires and one with cheapies, and the difference is amazing - like two different trikes entirely.

I'd say 250sx with good tires on it or maybe a 200s or 200m. Big red's probably get a bit too heavy in winter and sink (I've experienced this even with the light 200s). 350x would also be a good choice I'd say, but it would be easier to find a 200 or 250sx

I'd say get a 250sx, and put a 200x front end on it.

since the big red is heavy than wouldnt it be better, because wouldnt the tires get better traction

the 225dx is a cool all around trike, but i think it will lack in the power department for mud. i can only speak what i know. sounds like the majority vote is 250sx.

Umm the 250sx is an auto clutch not manual..
Also I have a 225Dr and it is a pretty good already but I find has a lack of clearence in the rearend, HOSS250R I have to disagree I live in New Brunswick and there is alot of mud.. and it does not have a problem turning the wheels in any mud. 1st gear is like 8kp/h lol.
If you want performance get a 350x or 200x
If you want good handling trail trike get a 225DR
If you want a good work trike get a 250es Big Red
If you want all that in one get a 250sx with racks and a trailer hitch.
