the rear brake on a 350X is a weak link. the biggest problem is the oversized steel piston. it heats up to quick and eventually ruins the seals. my solution use 85/86 250R rear brakes. however some modification will be needed.

1. locate the needed parts; 250R twin piston caliper, 250R rotor, 250R brake hub, and 85 brake mounts for 85 X and 86 brake mount parts for 86 X

2. the only modifications need is the rotor off set the R rotor needs to sit out (toward the wheel) 3.5mm more then the 350X. so machine 3.5mm off the surface off the brake hub were the rotor bolts on. once this is done all the 250R parts will bolt on and you now have a much more powerfull rear brake on your X and it has a better " feel " to it.

extra tip. the rear calipers on the R's (ATC and TRX) use steel pistons however they are the exact same size pistons as the ones in the front calipers and on all CR front calipers. but they are much lighter plastic and they do not corrode like the steel ones that sieze up easier.

Does the stock 350x master cylinder have any trouble actuating the dual piston rear brakes or do you upgrade it too?

no problem. the master cylinders R/X are almost the same. the major differance is how they mount.

although a 86 master cylinder on a 350x uses a bigger piston then on the 85 350X i prefure the feel of the 85 and use them.
