Ok, worked on the S all day today...Put new brakes, mounted the gas tank, ran the new fuel line, rebuilt the recoil starter..
I think I need new sprockets...I adjusted the chain and it rolls just fine until it gets to a certain point and then kinda binds... The teeth on the sprockets seem kinda sharp but why would it cause it to happen in just one spot???
It starts and revs just fine but smokes like a 2 stroke!!!! New top end maybe????
I can get it to idle but then it dies...I start it again and it idles then RPMs start kicking up to the point I shut it down....Carb Rebuild????
When I got the bike the kids that had it were running mixed fuel in it...
Does anyone think that this thing is just burning out what was in there???? After the mix went through the carb did that gum things up????
Oh yeah, I also refered to the manual and I think I adjusted the self adjusting cam chain...just loosen the nut at a idle and that takes care of it I guess....Any advice is WELCOME!!!!!
thanks
Craig

If they burnt mixed gas for a while it will cause premature wear on the rings, and it will continue to smoke until it is rebuilt. I don't know why it happens but I did this to a z50 while I had my 250r bike. I kept using the mixed gas because I didnt think it would hurt any thing. Maybe somebody could tell us a reason for this.

it may be just over fueling. carb clogged with oil. that may clean up some of the smoke the rest may be in the exh. system and will burn out in time.

Oh and for oil makeing the rings wear. NO
to much lubriction will make them float and more around so they don't seat. at thius piont the ring end gap may be to close.

Does the binding happen each time the sprocket goes around, or at a particular spot on the chain? I would suspect a stiff link in the chain based on my experence. I always replace sprockets when I replace chain. I find putting a new countersprocket (front) on when it is worn will give a noticable performance increase

i rebuilt the top end on my 200s by just taking the Clymer manual and diving in. it's very easy if you just take your time and follow the instructions.

They make a kit for your carb if you want to go that route.

When i had my 200 s i just took the carb apart cleaned with carb cleaner, sprayed it out with air and put her back to togather, seemed to help allot, especially if there is a ton gook (for lack of a better word) in it...

I know people who have taken there carbs that don't run right and get them acid dipped. Most local shop can get it done for you.

But just some TLC can make all the differance..
