I just rode my '86 200x for the first time since replacing the fork seals. I'll admit, the ride was rough but :wtf: the blew AGAIN! This is the 3rd time I've replaced these on this trike. What am I doing wrong? I've got them all the way in and the c clip is in place. They are right-side-up. I'm using 20w oil (7.3oz)--should I try 10w?

maybe your slider bushings are bad enough that the seals can't make up for the difference in diameter,,,, or too much oil?

How much air are you running in them?

And what brand of oil and dust seals are you using.
If youre not using OEM, you will be.

i wouldn't run ANY air in them. if you had them aired up and hit some big jumps that might have done it.

My 350X blew the seals right away too. I just paid to have them rebuilt a couple weeks ago this time, and the mech said NO air- the schraeder valve is just to let pressure out of them. I had him use OEM seals this time too.
We'll see how they hold up this time...

I have never run any air in my forks. Everything is fine in there--I tore them down a while back. Actually, the seals look fine too? Can ANYBODY tell be exactly how much oil I should be using per side (in each tube)? I haven't found an answer yet for oil capacity. Someone said 7.3 ounces is what the manual says. I tried that and no luck--does that mean 7.3 ounces TOTAL (divided by 2)??? Oh--everything I'm using is oem
7 oz. is all you need. 200x all and Tri-z. I use 5w raceing oil. And do not use air in them. The bushings should have NO copper showing. look at them with a magnifing glass. they cost around $8.00 each.

I just rebuilt mine. I used 10w oil. I used all factory parts. Did you blow both of them? Or just one? Make sure you don't have any burr's on them. How did you drive new seals in?

I looked closer at them. The right side has been leaking very little since I got the trike. I found a TINY scratch right where the seal goes--it runs all the way through the seal leaving a nice little trench for the oil to escape. The left side? I still don't know wtf happened but looks like I need new forks:mad: --The right side's gotta go so might as well replace them both--unless someone wants to sell just the right side?

yater, on my sport bikes I have to use what we call crokers cloth to remove any small burrs on the tubes from debrie. The smallest of a burr will ruin any new seals. Spend allot of time with this stuff and u should be able to get them to seal up. Get the tube up in a vise and realy work them over

Those say they're from an '85 but they look the same? Are they the same on the '85 and '86?

Hey Yater,
I believe you have to change out the whole front end to use em. I even think the diameter is different, but you should have someone with the earlier models check that and all measurments before you quote me. I have actually considered this too only so that I can achieve the Progresive springs, which are not avialable for the 86-87 200x. Oh that right there will tell you they are different.;).....
