I have a 85 honda 350x that I am planning on redoing and would like to do some mods to the engine.Heres my situation, my brother just order a new raptor 660 and I want to keep up with it.I don't think I will have a problem in the trails but could be a problem running striaght out.I have not yet had a chance to ride a raptor so I don't know what it is able to do.So what would you recommend.

A Twist thottle (better throttle response), good air filter (k&n or twin air) will make a noticeable differnce.... keep up on those oil changes too...

Here is the hot setup (on a budjet)

Get a DG steel COMPLETE pipe, a K&N filter with outwear, and the next three sizes up on jets for both the main and pilot.

After installing everything put in the main and pilot jets that are two sizes up, adjust as nessisary.

(Ohh yeah! The twist throttle doesn't help response...some people just prefer them to thumb thus you think they are better)

38mm carb, mild porting, bigger cam, large pipe, K&N filter, and a high compression piston should be more than enough.

p.s.- it's good to see another MS guy on the board. where do you ride?

I think I'll stay with a more milder setup like what some of you suggested.I like to be able to depend on it and not spend every minute working on it.Just wanted to add a little more punch to while it was apart.

250sx we mainly ride sand bars and some trials along a local creek. When our lake goes down everyone goes to the lake bottom and get a little muddy.

i've been building 350X big bores for years. there are many differant ways to build one but, you can go bigger and retain stock reliability. if you bore it to 82mm stroke the crank 6mm you come up with 392cc add a good pipe,a mild cam,38mm carb,HD clutch springs and you have a 38HP 4 stroke 400X (a stock raptor is around 34HP) all this while running on pump gas and maintaining stock reliability. the cylider wall is plenty thick enough and the webbing on the crank is strong enough. you can go up to 500cc but then that is were reliability suffers. 400cc is a good choice for all-around riding if i were building a MX/race motor i would go 450cc.

ive seen raptors and talked to people that ryde raptors....all i have to say is yamaha really made the raptor extremely..well..restricted....so a stock 350x won't have that much trouble keeping up if not beating a stck raptor....the only problem is a person who knows what theyre doing...can make the raptor a sream machine with veryy little modding ..then u better watch out...

very true a simple pipe swap will awakin a raptor the stock exhaust is very restrictive most pipes will put it around 40hp

powroll has a 770cc kit.I think you change the piston and you resleeve the cylinder. The cam and some other goodies are also changed.I read an article on this kit and it really seems to wake the raptor up.
