I just bought a 1985 200X. The forks are in bad shape. One has a small hole which has allowed the fluid inside to leak out. The current forks appear to be aluminum. Is there any way to patch the lower, stationary half of a fork by welding, or some patch??

I purchased a second set of forks on Ebay, for 200X but the lower half of these forks are black in color. Same forks, I suppose but different color (original forks on bike were just aluminum in color). These forks have no hole, but need rebuilding. How do you rebuild forks, find parts, what fluid goes in the forks and how much, and what do the little valves do on top of the forks. Sorry for all the questions but I am trying to get my 200X back on the road. Any info will help a lot.

Yes the slide can be welded. The black is just paint, Thats all.
Rebuild the shocks. replace the two bushings. cost $8.00 each X four. At Honda. Do not use the valve at the top. It'a for air to make the shock stiffer but you may blow the seal if you put to much in. I use 5w raceing oil in mine. 7oz.
