after hearing bout kasey's 500r,
i was looking around and ran into a running IT yamaha 400.
guy had flipped the bike several times and the motor is the only good thing left.
have a spare 84 frame in the shed and was wondering if anyone had ever tried to cross-breed a 250r like this?
already got the flip the back-end over........
but u can do this on 83 &84 250r's.
just curious.............

Anything can be done with enough time and money. I say it would be worth a try.
I was gonna do this same thing with a RD350 motor (aircooled banshee cousin). That thing would be a dune monster.

I would assume the conversion would be easier if engines had the same manufacturer as the bike's maket...isnt that usually why a 500R is a CR500 engine (honda)...easier fit? Just wondering...

the same make means nothing when trying to fit a motorcycle motor into a 3-wheeler frame............
and btw.............i didn't think they made an '87 3-wheel anything....................................
could be wrong.......??............

i don' believe that,,, 87 350x or 250r never made it to the showroom floor,, maybe in advertizements . nobody has ever seen a 87 tho!!!!
kasey, There are a few '87 R's and X's in Canada, they're just not that common that you see them everywhere.

hey we came realclose to putting a dt 400 in a 84 250r frame. you will have to do the usual stuff like remount the engine, making sure of chain alinment. may have to cut the down tube. ( in front of the engine ).ofcourse make a pipe. when you remount the motor. where do you want it to set. foward or to the rear of stock. the weight tranfer is one thing you need to send some time thinking about.forward will keep it down, but place more weight on the front tire nose heavy move it back your font will be light.then the front will come up quicker.but the only way you, llfind out is to do it. so get after it. we didn,t use the yammy motor because couldn,t find a good stator for less than 300.00 and a guy gave me 300.00 for the motor. so that money when into hot rod 250r parts. is anyone using nolagy wire or coil? there called hot wire

idont know if i,ve seen caseys but i have seen 250r/500,s they would be damn hard to beat. as long as they keep the front on the ground. i think a 500 lb sand bag may help or at least even things up for the little old 250
