I took some picts of the stock and maier fenders I have. Lets start with the basics,,,I labeled each fender so you can see the difference. On the Maier you will see the wimpy fender brace that is broke and then what happens to fenders, (they sag towards exhaust and melt).
Both fenders have started a melt. My stock extremely bad. My Ebay special Maier, you can see the spot starting. If you notice my replacement brace on the stock fenders actually curve into a spot to brace the fenders up. A MUCH thicker brace. So those of you that havent got the melt yet, get that brace. Now the rest of us who have gotten to this point, Maeir replacement. The new brace will not work with maier. So I am on a mission to see about braces to fit, so as to stop sagging fenders...and gather thoughts. I want to check into braces from earlier year 200x, maybe swipe the 350x brace (It looks to be wide but havent measured) OR is there no solution...

Jenn, when I put the maier on my 86, the stock brace wouldnt fit..HOWEVER. WE forced it to fit , and bolted it in place. Maybe you can ask motoman for pics? It worked fine, and never had a problem with the Burn ..Good luck:thumbsup:

Well maybe this will help. this is the front saport for the SX.
with a little moding it will work better that the OME support.
It thas the front panel support on it that will help to keep the fenders from sagging. sorry about the smug on the lens.

You can also apply a self sticking heat shield. Dennis Kirk has it.

Dads, I have been thinkin on this for a few days, I came up with a couple of questions..

First is there a way to secure it to the plastic? 2nd, do you need to cut the excess brace off?

Mobular I have exhaust wrap, but I am also hopin to stop the saggin of fenders?

Redneck Yes I would like all picts.......

Thx Jen

You would have to weld it to a mounting plate so it will not more because the marier plastic does not have the fender support nubs. and sea it has to be trimed down a little.

ok before anyone says anything i know this is five years old but.... i didnt have my 86 back then my oem's are kinda melted and has a broken gold brace like your maier picture, so i ordered a new one from dgy.com it fits but theres no where to secure it to the seat pan.

so did you custom make those tabs for you black rear fender mount or what???
