i am buying a 85 250r today and i need to know i should look out for? what are the problem areas and what is expensive to replace? i know the shifter and ros is stripped so that is one problem

look for damage to the case near the front sprocket which happens when the chain flies off.

Stand it on end and look for cracks on the underside of the swingarm near the pivot. Also check the frame between the radiators for cracks/breakage.

What about swing arm bearings? If they have not been done in a while, you will prob. have to drill out the pivot bolt........and that is NOT fun.........:mad: I just looked at a thundered 85/250R the other day. The guy wanted $1700.00Can for a $400.00Can bike......
Seized pivot bolts are easy to get out. 4½" hand grinder and a 3/64" zip disc. Mind you, you have to remove the engine, but it will only take about 5 minutes to cut and remove the bolt. Much easier and safer than drilling.

It's what holds the swingarm to the rest of the trike.
