Sand Tires Unlimited SAND SKATE IIs

the sharks are way cheaper, but they look almost identical. I figure they must be heavier or something, but won't that increase their puncture-resistance? I know that isn't a big deal for you cali guys, but out here we have to ride through junk to get to the sand.

oh yeah, the best price I've found on 20x11-10 Tires mounted on .190 wheels is
$190 shipped for the Sharks
$225 plus shipping for the Skates
Really not a whole lot of difference on the prices, but I've also got to factor in longevity & damage resistance based on the terrain we ride Although I'm obviously not going trail riding on them, they still have to be able to ride some dirt in between sand spots and such.

what are they going on? i had sand sharks on my 400ex and they worked ok, but not good. i switched to haulers and put the sand sharks on my 200x. they work good on there. the sand skates hook up a lot better and are a better tire for a bigger bike. but they are a lot more money and they have a much bigger paddle and thicker. i have a friend that really likes the sand skates, has them on both his bikes, atc350x and trx350x. they do work good but i am a fan of the haulers.

The Geckos look good and they are a good price. However, I have had several people tell me that they're junk compared to a true V-style paddle.

Dan, I'm running the sharks on my x. Through the woods no problem, and they hook-up well in the sand. They are a little on the heavy side, but thats the durabilty of them. I'm going to run scat trac haulers on the x I'm building now.

i think that is the name of those Troll. I WANT those tires. They manufacture all the SandTires Unlimited right here 25miles from my house. I go into the Plant that make them everyday, Specialty Tires of America. My problem is, they CANNOT sell that brand of tire to ANYONE but the licensed Dist. That INCLUDED employees. I can't see spending that kinda $$$$ on a pair of tires I will only use once in a while. (winter riding) Do you want to sell them to me,,,never saw a set of used ones before. :D Let me know. As for the poll, from everything I have heard, the Skates will out perform all the other V paddles out there. Don't know why, but I guess they just do.

Anyone run the skates in anything other than sand? Just wondering if they will pop like balloons if they're exposted to anything other than the dunes.

Gecko's are heavy, I have the ITP sand stars on 10 inch ITP rims. They hook up great and I got them for $179 from a shop here in San Diego. If these are your only choices, i would go with the Sand Skate II.

they're not my only choice. I just thought they were the only 2 v-paddles out there.

in real life with the sand shark and sand skate II's side by side the sand sharks look like baby sand skate II's.

yeah I have sand sharks on my R and I like them, but I rode an R like mine with sand skate 2's and to me they hook up more than my sand sharks, they bad thing is I cant take off as fast with the sand skates, because it wants to wheelie.

Kenda makes a V-paddle tires, and I'm not talking about Gecko. But I can't remeber the name.
I just got the new dennis kirk catalog and theirs a new brand of paddles tires in their and they are priced at about $40-50.

If the R with Skates had too much bite for you, put more air in them. That will reduce the bite. Plus it will make them a little bigger, giving you a higher top speed.

I will do that, thanks ATCnut.

If I had a choice between the two I would have to go with the Sand Skates. I personally prefer SKat Trak's tires. They perfom better than anything I have ever tried. However, the way they are made is pretty slutty, but I have never had a problem with one.
