Here's a shot of it "in progress." Notice the aluminum brake resevoir to replace the plastic one. You can also see the stock swingarm which is now being replaced with a 1 1/2" longer aluminum one.

NICE JOB MR ATV .. where's the motor? Are you keeping track of cost? Why would someone buy a $5000+ quaQ when you can build a SWEET Trike like yours!

what you see here is the trial fitting stage of my 400X. these pictures were taken at the same time about 2 months ago since then the suspension system has gone through a complete change. the forks you see are 350X forks that have been modified with longer damping rods and H.D. progressive rate springs this increses the travel to 8.5" however they have been replaced with modified 250R forks that have a MUGAN fork kit installed this kit includes magnisium sliders with longer damping rods, and a cartridge kit with a valving stack total travel is almost 11". the modified 350X forks have gone back to there rightfull home my 85 350X. the swingarm has been replaced with a aluminum unit that is 1 1/2" longer than stock. the shock has also been replaced it was originaly built for this trike but when i got the new swingarm it had to be changed to a completly custom built one. that particular shock you see is a stock shock modified with a works guts internal kit which has a larger shaft better piston assembly. and 17 pos. rebound adjuster it retains the stock resevoir with the 22 pos compression adjustment. the spring is a strate rate unit with a 850lb sprig rate (very stiff) total travel 8.5" this too has found its way to my 85 350X to compliment the forks. the new shock is a custom built unit with 10" travel. the frame is a (new) 85 350X frame that i modified and reinforced in several week spots some are obvious some are not. the motor that is waiting to go in it is a bored and stroked (new) 86 350X motor total displacement is 392cc its horsepower is around 38. the rear end is the most advanced part of this trike in addition to the dura blue axel and wheel hubs it has a tappered bearing carrier. it also uses a twin piston brake caliper from a 250R it also has a modified dura blue anti fade brake hub and a titanium brake rotor it also has a pro circut aluminum brake resevoir the total rear end set up cost over $2500.00 the total cost of the machine is close to 10,000.00 with another 2500.00-3500.00 to go ther are a lot more fetures that have not been listed because the list itself is 2 pages long. some of the things i am still working on are larger duel oil coolers, electric start, taller internal 6th gear, carbon fiber wheels, and a few other top secrate items. for those that asked the skid plates are made by OMF and are still avalible i will post more info and updates if wanted. thanks, MR ATC

What I would like to know is how much, and where did you get the front fork kit to make those forks. I'm rebuilding my ATC 250R, and from what you said those forks seem like the sh_t. It looks as if your 400x is going to be setup for the long desert races? that's awesome, I'm trying to do the same for my 250R. Also what is the website for OMF? I haven't tried www.omf.com yet so if it is that just call me dumb. Thanks.:headbang:

a lot of people think it is built for the desert but it is built for all around riding i just prefer the tall seat all my 350X's have them. the fork kit was originally avalible from American Mugan Now called AL Bakers XR's Only. I have a set on my 86 250R. The set i got for my 400X i got off ebay they were left over old stock and still in the original package. OMF dose not have a web site to my knowledge but there phone # is (909) 354-8272

Mr. ATC, where could a fella get a stiff rear spring, such as what you've got there? I find that I'm needing more than the stock blue spring....

Hey MR ATC your 400X looks absolutely AWESOME! :headbang:
I wish my 200X looked like that right now!
I've got an OMF skid for my swingarm that I haven't put on my X yet - got it used off of ebay in great shape. I probably paid more for it than I should have, but I couldn't resist since (I thought)they are hard to come by. I want to get one for the front too instead of putting the OEM one on. I'll have to give OMF a call and see if they still carry them for the 200X! :D

Thats pretty freaking sweet man!!
I'd really like to see someone stuff a 400ex motor in an Atc frame.

It could be done a 400ex would bolt in a 350X frame with little modification but it would be pointless since a stock 350X motor has the same H.P. as a 400ex and when you build it to 400 it has 10 more H.P. then a 400ex. and you have enough room on a 350 to go as big as 500

Isn't the 350X motor considered one of the most reliable, most hopupable engines around?
I thought thats why people were buying them up and stuffing the engines into four wheelers.
I know I went to some dirt drags with mine and I sat in line behind a guy with a QuadSport with a 350x engine in it and MAN his exhaust was about knocking me around it was so built.
Proly like MR ATCs stuff ;-)

I've ridden a 350x before, and to me it really didn't seem to have as much low end as the 400ex does.

I have an absolutely bone stock 85 350x aside from holeshots on the rear and dragged my brother on his recently purchased 2000 400 ex with nothing more than a White Bros E series slip on with 6 disks, no jetting or airbox mods through 4th gear and it was a draw 4 times, tried different rider on both and same result. So I would have to say they are very close in performance throughout the rpm range, I would have thought the 400 had a bit more power considering its a heavier machine and stayed right with me. To say the least I was tickled that my 17 yr old machine was hanging right beside the 400.

if I had a 350x w/ no motor I'd find a 300ex engine to put in it. decent power, electric start, and REVERSE. that thing would be almost unbeatable. :headbang:

the motor that is going in it started out as a brand new 86 350X crate motor i bored it and stroked it to 392cc, mid to top cam, HD. valve springs, ported and polished,38mm carb, a custom pipe i built, H.D. clutch, 13/37 gearing, and electric start. it has about 39HP. i left the original paint on it for those times when i put stock plastic on it for those "sleeper" days. the motor won't go in it till last that why i won't be temted to ride it before it's 100% the way i want it
