Restoring an '85 250R. Replaced rear disc, was worn pretty bad, and when I put the new pads in the caliper, there is no freakin way its going back on the disk. Pushed pistons all the way in, seems like one doesn't go all the way, should I replace the whole thing , or take it to the shop, because IT'S KILLIN ME

The pistons get crud on them where they are out of the caliper. before you try to push them back in all the way you should take them all the way out and clean all the crud off with brake fluid. I also recommend taking the seals out and cleaning up the caliper. Many times I have seen where someone just pushes the piston back in and puts on new pads, and the caliper starts leaking soon after because the crud trashes the seals.

The other thing that can be a problem is the slide pin being stuck. this is another place where you really need to take the caliper off and completly disasseble it to really get it right

I know it is a lot more work to take the caliper off and completly disassemble it, but your brake will work and not leak after that.

If it has the parking brake on it you may need to back out your adjusting bolt
