what is the difference between the 85 and 86 250r axles, swing arms and carriers? my rear axle, carrier bearings, and the swingarm bolt on my 85 are bad and need replaced. the carrier is also in bad shape. so basically everything but the swing arm is shot. since i have to change it all should i go to a 86 model over the 85? what is different?
thanks
chris

the 85 250R use's a smaller diameter bearing/axel housing it is not interchangable with 86. the rear brake mount is also differant and not interchangable with 86. 86-86 250R 3 & 4 are the same. if it were me i would spend the extra money and buy a 86 swingarm so you could replace all your bad parts with 86 style and upgrade at the same time

i agree with mr atc accept that if it was mine i'd probably rebuild the 85 setup. the big difference with the 86 is that as you adjust the chain out you don't lose brake swept area like you do with the 85. it's minimal but it's there. and nothing past the pivot area swaps with the later arms.
