I have a 1985 350X that I have recently restored. Just put a new DG pipe on it when I noticed I was losing power. Thought it was the jetting but have come to the conclusion that my clutch is slipping. Do I need a whole new clutch or could it be a spring or the clutch discs. I have never had one apart, what kind of job am I going to get myslef into?

I'm not saying you're wrong, but how did you decide that it was your clutch?

I was going across the grass in 3rd gear and I hit the throttle. The front end should have come up with no problem, but it hardly did and it wasn't accerlerating like it should. It just felt like something was slipping. We adusted the clutch cable as much as I could which seemed to help. But it did not solve the problem completely. Before I was riding on gravel and was easing into the throttle before getting on it because I thought I was running it to lean. I changed Main jets and the problem still exists. Thats when I happened to go across the grass at slower speeds and noticed it as well. Are my assumptions wrong or do you have any other ideas that it might be?

When you go to hit the gas does the engine race?. If your clutch is slipping and you hit the gas the rpm`s should hit the roof. Clutches tend to slip more in higher gears because of the added stess on it. A good way tp test it. Is to find a hill that you can ride up in sixth gear. Like on a back road or something. And start up the hill ideling along in sixth. And hit the gas. If the engine labors all the way up the hill then your clutch is fine. If the engine starts to rev up and down then your clutch is slipping. If the engine does labor up the hill and not rev. Then maybe you should check for stuck brakes or bad axle bearings or anything else that cold hold the engine back.
