i bored my 200x 80 over (max) has anyone done this with thier machine? did you have ant probs timing it ?or any other probs?

another q.
when i started my machine for the first time the other day it smoked bad i have let it run for about 30 minutes total but it still smokes ,could it be from the mix of oil and tranny fluid in the crank case (tranny fluid used to help clean the crankcase.)

I have an '85 X that's bored .080 over with a 12:1 Wiseco. It hasn't had a half-gallon of gas run through it yet, but no problems or smoke so far. I don't believe that merely being bored to the limit is going to cause any problems with timing or anything else for that matter. It's possible that the tranny fluid is causing your smoke problem, but I'm not 100% sure.

my piston has a 1.00 stamped on it. is that 40 or 80 over?

1.00 is .040 over. Mine has 2.00 stamped on it, and it's .080 over.--Charles

the bottom part of my cilinder broke off and fell into my carncase when ui was riding the trike ...lol..u might consider that a problem...

Hey 200x_basket, I'm not sure what reason the shop you're talking about had to tell you that, but I do know that you can't get a Wiseco 67mm(.080) piston for the 83-85 X unless it's 12:1 compression like mine. The 10.25:1 goes up to 66.5mm only. I'm unsure of what other piston manufacturers offer, but that may have had something to do with their position. At first I hesitated to go the 12:1 route, but when I weighed the pros(more power/more cam options) and cons(fuel cost...AvGas@ $2.45 per gallon or Race Gas @$3.45 per gallon) I went ahead with the dome top.

with a 12:1 compression you also have to consider heat transfer, i thinner cylinder wont transfer heat as well, plus the extra cost of fuel, and reliability. but if you wantta go fast, ya gots ta pay.

A former friend of mine back in "the day" put a 12:1 Wiseco in his 250SX, ran it on pump gas(80-something octane) in the creek, at the racetrack, and all around here with no problems(untill!!!). One day the crankshaft broke, but upon inspection at teardown, there was no evidence of any other problem. If I hadn't seen it myself(I bought the SX from him), I wouldn't believe it.-Charles

Are you sure the smoke was from oil. And not from the choke being on. Or the carb running to rich. When you put the rings on the piston did you stagger them so that the gap wasnt in the same place on the piston?. Beings how you had it running once. I would say your timing is fine. I would look at carb trouble.

Timing is off . sounds like the valve timing is off , 1 tooth advanced should be hard start run ruff. 1 retarded should run with no balls. Bad carb will sound like a miss fireing eng. on exceleration. (slow exceleration)

ok... some of you are going to laugh at me, but i have noticed that the timing on these 200x can be off, if you take a dial indicator to find tdc of the piston. the flywheel and the pulse rotor/valve timing will be off on the flywheel mark. only way to make the piston at tdc is to elongate the holes on the cam chain sprocket, then adjust the valve timing and pulse rotor. it's only a degree or two but it makes a hell of a difference in starting.
im not saying this is your problem and it probably shouldn’t even be in this post.
(i) always check the piston with a dial indicator when u I do a rebuild to see where the real tdc is and not go by the flywheel mark.

:hail: to doug meyers in canasaraga new york my 200x is no longer @#$%^% up!!!! turns out the timing wasn't off i had it right from the start!!! when i explained to him what it was doing he said something in the spark was not right we changed everything cdi, the top rotor and box, coil, coil wire, and nothing worked :wtf: then he said "do you have the lower scatter plate" (everything else was spare parts i have)i took them to him saturday he worked on it about an hour tonight and in two kicks she fired up!!!!!!! Ran smooth but smoked alot hopefully it will stop if it doesn't the valve seals and head job are next!!!!!!!
