HELP! i have an 1985 350x that is carbon fouling the plug at all throttle positions! i have taken it apart, cleaned it, put it together with an overhaul kit. replaced needle valve and float. pilot screw set to 1.5 turns. all jets are factory standard sizes. main is a 138. replaced choke valve. I GIVE UP! no one at dealer can explain this. how do you adjust float height on an all plastic float? that is the only thing left that i know of. I AM AT MY END!!!! thank you.

Is the airbox lid stock with no holes in it? If so, have you checked the snorkel intake tube from the airbox up to the frame to see if it's plugged up with anything? Mice like to build nests in them sometimes if a machine sits for any length of time. How's the air filter is it clean and is the air tube from the air filter to the carb plugged up with debris?

mine used to belch black smoke alot. I kreemed the tank,(very nasty and rusty) cleaned the carb all out, replaced the air filter (shoulda done all this a loooong time ago) and it seems to run perfectly now. It does still cough out every once in a while, but it does idle and run better. Being my daily driver, I put off monkeying with it too long.

box is stock, uni filter is clean. snorkel tubes are both clear. clip is in 3rd groove. maybe the carb butterfly is not opening enough before the slide moves? i dunno!
help!

When plastics floats are out of adjustment you have to replace them all toegther. Set at the correct height? Is needle bent? Wrong size? Carbs can be very touchy.

If you take off the side cover off of the carb you'll see the tang that you can adjust to sync the butterfly and the slide. The 350X I sold Troll was way out of sync and it wouldn't hardly rev until I sync'd the carb and then it ran great.

how do you sync the two of them? i saw this in the honda shop manual, but it doesn't say how to tell what the correct sync is. should the butterfly open first? and how far? thanks!

On page 4-10 of the 350X service manual is says:

Throttle Valve Synchronization

Close the butterfly throttle valve fully.

Make sure that the piston throttle valve(needle) is closed fully and there is no clearance between the throttle link and the piston throttle valve shaft arm.

Adjust synchronization by opening or closing the slot in the throttle link( the tang lever on the side of the carb under the cover)

The butterfly and the needle are sync'd together so they move at the same time.
