how does the roostboost work? Ive heard about people using them just wondered how they worked. If I were you I would work my way up on the bore job, dont go to big at first. Unless you want to haul some major a** right off the bat. Try pipe ,sprockets & k&n. good luck

there are severall things to consider,
how much you have to spend,
type of riding,
mechanical skills ( a hopped up moter requires more maintenance),
type of power your looking for,
the list goes on.
i've been building High performance 350X's for 19yrs and i've yet to build two exactly the same.
one thing i can tell you is this. before i'd go hog wild on the motor there are some chassie mods i would do first. the stock 350X motor over powers the chassie as it sits.
for example if someone came to me and said...
"i have 1500.00 ( not including labor ) to put into my 350X and want a good all around play/race trike"...
this is what i would recomend,
1. Uni air filter.........................................................................25.00
2. front springs from progressive suspension ........................75.00
3. rear stock shock modifications ( this includes labor )........380.00
4. cobra pipe........................................................................150.00
5. 13/38 chain and sprockets ( sidewinder their worth it)....150.00
6. 20" kenda vipers..............................................................100.00
7. ITP 9" wheels, they have 1" more of offset and widen the X by 2"............................................................................................80.00
8. 82mm wiseco 10.25: compression piston ( 360cc)..............75.00
9. magacycle cam..................................................................125.00
10. H.D. valve springs...........................................................100.00
11. 36mm kehine carb..........................................................150.00
12. hi flight desart seat..........................................................80.00
then you would have a 1985 trike that is just as powerfull and as well suspended as a 400ex (it would actually have more power by 7-9 h.p.), a raptor, or a Z400.
Could you please provide more info on, "3. rear stock shock modifications ( this includes labor )........380.00 " This really interests me.

this is one of the first modifications i recomend and/or do to 350X's. as the stock rear shock is a weak point for agressive/heavier riders.
basically your turning a stock shock into a "works performance" shock.
the stock internals are removed from the stock shock body and replaced with a "cartridge" kit from "works". this kit has a bigger diameter shaft and a better piston design that alows a more agressive/progressive valving stack and gives you 18 positions of adjustment vs. the stock 4 positions.
why is this so much better?
1. the stock shock has a non progressive valving stack that in reality does very little and relies more on the progressive rate of the stock spring to do the major work. this ends up giving you a "dead" feeling suspension.
2. the stock shaft is 1/2" vs. the "works" 5/8" shaft. this basically gives you less chance of bending the stock shaft. (i've bent severall and seen a lot more)
as a added bonus the stock resevoir is retained so you still have your 22 positions of compression adjustment. if you were to buy a whole new shock from works your looking at 550.00 and the resevoir they give you has no compression adjustments but, they will "add" one on for another 80.00.
when its all complete the only differance between a modified stock shock and a full blown "works" shock is the shock body itself. the stock one is cast aluminum and the works is billet. normally billet is better because its stronger but, the shock body itself takes no stress load. plus cast is lighter then billet.
for really agressive/pro riders/ heavier riders, i also recomend a stiffer spring as well (I personally use a 850lb. straight rate spring) 85.00. you can get them from progressive suspension and send it to "works" with your stock shock or you can buy one from "works" eatier way don't install a differant sproing AFTER the mods. they are set up for whatever spring you send them.
if and when you do this they will work with you and build the right shock for you.
I myself used to install the kits but, with the theft of my tools i no longer can as of now.
Great, thanks for the info -- this is something I'll likely be looking into doing in the near future.

see now were getting closer. like i said those mods were a generallization of a all around rider. and a example of what i was talking about.
i still need to know a budget ($$$) and type of riding you do. (trails, dunes, track, ect. )

Hey guys finally got time to make the 630 mile roundtrip to pick up the stock 85 350X I bought. I'll get some pics up when I get my software working. I had a brand new cobra pipe to put on it when I got it, got it put on and man is it LOUD! It's got that high pitched crack to it, is there any other pipes out there that would have more of a roar to it?
