I understand that pro15 is a much simpler process, and less likely for mistakes so if anyone has a writeup please add. Also any other ways to do the tanks would be awesome!! So that the folks who need to do this have many options!! Thx Jen

I re-did an atc 90 tank about a year ago and before using the Kreem kit i did a 50/50 mix of water and Muriatic Acid in the tank two times and shook it around alot. It etched the tank completely and then with the Kreem kit to finish it up it came out mint. If you do use this wear gloves because Muriatic acid is very dangerous it will eat your skin and clothes also try not to breath in the fumes they are horrible.

Yeah that kreem stuff is nice, a lil time consuming but nice.

Here ia a tip if you dont want to kreem a tank that has rust.
A pressure washer works well to remove light to medium rust, also sand-blasting the interior , prefirably BEFORE, pressure wash.
If you have large holes like many old metal tanks from rust, you can solder the holes shut with a propane torch and lead solder.

WARNING!!!!:bash: :fire:

First flush tank with water/dish soap.
then start a tractor or mower with streight pipe (rev to about half throttle) and place filler hole on the pipe so that exhaust is going in tank , let run like that for a mimimum of 30 minutes.
IF tank still smells of gas let it rum longer.
This scavenges the tank fumes buning them off safely and sealing metal surface with carbon.

THEN and ONLY then you can begin soldering, usually this seals the holes of purdy good , if you still have a little seepage , dry it off good and parge it with jbweld.
I have done this several times and it works well.

I use muratic acid. Get it at any hardware store in the pool section. Just be careful handling/disposing of it.

I have used a product called red-kote and you shake out all the loose rust inside, then use acetone or m.e.k solvent to wash out the inside of tank really well, and like the kreem stuff you pour a quart can in with up 25% reduction of acetone or m.e.k and which makes it coat areas better, and drain off the excess sealer out of the tank. I have heard I haven't seen it yet, that the kreem gets too thick and tends to crack over time. the red-kote is red colored sealant that looks like a candy red paint inside a clean metal tank, it comes in a quart can and it's easier to keep fuel drain area open. You can purchase this product from Oreily's Auto Parts stores. Just other product that works well

Great write up jen! But also here is a tip call a local radatior shop and as them if they can fix it for you ours here charges us 30 bucks to boil the inside and coat it. Also it doesnt hurt the paint and he even gives us better rates if we bring in more than one tank at a time

That's really good to know. What kind of sealer did they use in the tank?

Dammit!

POR-15 makes some good gas tank sealer too. It all comes down to whether you have the time/desire to do it yourself (or no other local option) or if you would rather just drop some $.

Iagree with you Dan...Por-15 kit costs like 35 bucks with everything and just takes aboot 3.5 days to be ready. Better than kreem from what i have heard, POR-15 did the job on the 200x.
