Anyone know what size the axle nut is on the 83 110. Trying to find out what size wrench to get (I don't have one big enough). I measured 1 inch and 3 quarters. That's probably way off can anyone help?

Its pipe wrench size. Honestly. Every one i had to break loose. I had to use a pipe wrench and a 3 foot piece of pipe on the handle to break it loose. I know its probable not the right way to do it. But i didnt want to spend $30.00 on a metric wrench that you would only use once in a great while.

I was going to use a giant monkey wrench but I wasn't sure if it would hurt anything. I guess that's what I'll probably do thanks again. At the current time I feel like an idiot posting so maney questions. Anyway thanks

an inch and 3/4 works out to more like46mm, good luck finding a wrench that big. The way I figure out sizes is to use a set of calipers. I don't have a metric set, but use a SAE one. Once I have put them around a nut or bolt I just take them and hold them against a 27cent metric ruler I got at Wal-Mart and there you go.

A monkey wrench (without teeth like a pipewrench) or a large Crescent wrench. Then you can use it for more than one thing.

If you are worried about leaving marks on the nut. Just wrap a rag around the nut. And then put the pipe wrench on it.

On my daughters 79 110 it was a 41mm....and yes I had to buy two of them. I tried the pipe wrench theory gently, but it was obvious that was going to trash the nuts. It took two 41 mm end wrenches (big s.o.b.'s!) and a rubber mallet to break the lock nut loose.
The wrenches, at a local tool shop, were only $15 a piece. I needed them, and figured I'd have them for the other trikes too. $15 wasn't too bad, I figured it would be about $30 a piece...so I was mentally prepared for the sticker shock of a big *** wrench.

Wow that a good deal nuthinspecial. Our local auto parts store only caries life time warrenty tools. And they didnt have one on hand that size. And they wanted over $30.00 a piece for the wrenchs to order them. So i said the heck with it and used the pipe wrench.

And i am not one of them guys that has to chrome everything on the trike. So i didnt really care if the nut got gouged up a little in the process. As long as it works and does it job.

Yeah, I got 'em at Salem Tools....kinda like a spendier version of Harbor freight. I think in most cases the tools are better quality than Harbor freight, but not as good as my Craftsman tools. Then again for half the price of Craftsman......what the heck.

I couldn't believe it took a 41mm wrench either, especially when I bought the wrenches....they are HUGE, but when I put them to the trike, sure enough...just what I needed and without the scratches and scars. I'm not a buff-n-puff kinda guy either, but I try not to booger things up any worse than they already are.

I'm betting it's the same as the 79 110 so I'll go with nuthinspecial. I'll probably buy or burrow the wrench from canadian tire. I feel bad for the states you don't have canadian tire. :(
