My beater/smoker 200 needs to run for one more weekend
( brother in from CA ). It's about shot, but if I want to try to
get one more weekend out of it, I'm wondering whether I can
do any oil additives ( like Restore or Slick50 or something )
without making the clutch slip.

Anyone out there tried that stuff ? results ? Clutch problems ?

(84 200M, so it's not a manual clutch model, but I believe the
main clutch still runs in engine oil . . )

DO NOT put any thing with a anti friction it it like Slick-50.
When your running Friction Clutches.

you may want to look at ring seal or motor honey. To see what the ingredients are.

Yeah, that's what I was concerned about -
It's funny - even after seizing and then restarting, the stupid
smoky thing still has great compression, and will still outrun
my "good" 200M. It just smokes more now.

So, I'll check the ingredients on some ring seal, make sure there
aren't any friction fighters like teflon, graphite or such. Any
doubts, I'll just put in a little STP, maybe, with the oil and
see what happens. I kinda can't lose, because it's gotta come
apart this winter anyway . . . . .but no sense trashing MORE of
the engine.

If you're in the mood , do you want to offer an opinion about whether
it makes more sense to rebuild the engine on this trike, or just
go looking for another cheap one ? Frame and Tranny OK -
plastic shot - cheap tires 50% gone - 1 wheel welded on -
pull and electric starters OK - switches/lights working -
I've never rebuilt the engine on one, so most likely at least
part of the job will have to be given to a shop, like maybe the
cylinder bore check and any other stuff you can't do with basic
tools.

Wadya think ? Walk away and look for a new friend, or tear
into this one ?

Once a good friend always a good friend, if it still runs for you now, put a little money into it and make it a screamer.

You may want to try the straight wait oil first like 60-w raceing oil. First.

Ahhh the beaters. We all have them and all love them. Can anyone ever say they never owned a bike that looked like sheet but ran like the devil? Ive own a few and had a few in the same problem. The question is the bike still runs ok. How was it seized? if its just rust seized then keep running it. I've ran snowmobiles that have been seized for years. And have run good. It all depends on how shot it is.

Need some beater help this should be a special section in general tech. Or better yet Performance mods:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

just keep oil in it and run it and mabey a spare plug. i did that with a 200x we woudl run it for a few hours and throw soem oul in it and it would be bone dry but still runnin lol
but siezed about15 times then we decided to rebuild it. just keep oil in it and it would be fine.

And, the mosquitoes left !
I found and fixed a small oil leak, so it's actually not using much
oil now - smokes like the devil, but doesn't use much oil - go figure.

Anyway, it's still running, and it's going to have to run worse than
this if it wants to get rebuilt ! Thing pulls good wheelies, slides
the back end around under power - just generally behaves like
a happy little 200 - just make sure you don't end up following it
down the trail :)

Love these things . . . . just plain tough to kill, and fun trying.

some of the smoke can be over fueling too.

I run a little bit of Lucas oil in my beaters. It's real thick (Pure pertroluem, no additives). Blends with pretty much any oil. It helps seal.

Speaking of beaters, someone should start a thread on those. I have a hybrid 250es/sx engine (The engine looks like a silver/black checkerboard. Long story short, poor crankshaft never had a chance, looked like an hour glass, ran like the dickens though)
