Hey, I noticed a wobble on the rear end of the 85 tri-z, I checked and the axle had lots of movement on the left side right where the sprocket hub meets the middle of the axle and the thing(that the suspension is connected to on the axle) so It looks to me like the thing that the suspension connects to on the axle is broken. 1st question is what is that thing called? second question, is it possible to replace just that part or do I have to replace the whole axle and sprocket hub? and if I can just replace that part, how much does it cost and is it a difficult job? Thanks.

If you can pick it out on these couple of pics it would help alot to understand what you are trying to describe

are you sure it is not just an axle bearing?

Sounds to me like the bearings are shot. IMHO

I think he was trying to say that where the carrier bolts to the swing arm is broken....That is what I got out of it....You really dont get the play he is describing from suddenly worn out bearings do you??? I dont know, I just changed mine when I got it to be safe....

Here is a picture of the part that i am having a problem with, it is marked out with yellow. Right where the sprocket screws into the piece i have circled has alot of movement, I can wiggle the axle on the sprocket side about an inch up and down so I think this piece is broken. I would like to know if I can just replace this part and if so how much am I looking at. I know on ebay.com there is a full rear axle with everything for only cheap but he will not ship to canada so, oh well. I think I might have to go to the dump to see if there are any parts bikes there.

Take your sprocket off...Then slide the axle out the brake side...Then replace your bearings...Replacement Carrier bearings are only about 20 bucks...From what you said in your first post I thought maybe a bolt was loose or broken...
