I posted this in another thread and I thought everyone could benefit from this.....

to calculate your gear ratio divide the rear spocket size by the front sprocket size....for example,,,,a 44 tooth rear with a 13 front is a 3.385 to 1 ratio.....You can use this to calculate gear changes....

Also,,,,to calculate how many teeth to change after your tire swap use this program.....

remember that there are two reduction ratios to consider on a 3 wheeler....the internal and the external(sprockets).....plus the gear ratios also have to be added....

for example,,,,a 84 250R has a primary reduction ratio of 3.25 and a secondary reduction(sprockets) ratio of 3.231 ....the top gear ratio is .839....so multiply all of these together and you get an overall ratio of 8.81.....enter this # in the mph calculator and you can figure what sprocket sizes you need for your new tires...
