Hey I have an 85 tri-z and I have a few more problems I need to fix. First is that one of the bearings went on the bike today and when I went to change them the outside metal of the bearing is really wedged into the bearing carrier. I tried to get it out but it will not budge, is there anything I can do to get that darn thing out so I can put the new one in. Also I have been having a problem when I speed up, when I hit the power band I suppose the bike will sputter and slow down and it sometimes happens when I haven't changed the plug in a few days. That is another problem, I find that I have to change plugs very regularly, after a while of using the same plug, i'm talking a few days, Its brown on the tip and the bike rides pretty rough. The other day I was driving up the road and the bike just died when I was in 2nd gear and no way could I get it started again, but when i replaced the plug, boom, it started. I am mixing the oil 20liters of gas -1liter of oil and I am using castrol 2 stroke oil from walmart. The bike is bored over and has performance pistons and a full dg exhaust, should I change my mix, my oil or is it something else? thanks, sorry its so long

sounds like your running a little rich, try useing belray MC1 mix it 50:1 and try leaning out your carb just a hair not to much or you will be up the ol __ creek

Go down a size or two on the main jet and see if that fixes your sputtering problem.
As for the bearing it's best you take the carrier to a machine shop and have them press the bearings out

It does sound like you are a little rich...I use Yamalube from Yamaha and have never had problem one....Also, the ratio is 20:1, That is what I mix and have never had a problem..I havent changed my spark plug in 2 yrs....He He He!!!
I agree with Dirtsquirt.... Take the Carrier to the shop and have them press it out....I fought mine for 2 days,,They had it out in 15 min....Money well spent....:headbang:
What is your jetting now???,,,What size Carb???

The easiest way is to Loosen the hose clamps on the manifold and air cleaner joint. Rotate the Carb. and remove the drain plug from the float bowl. Then just remove and replace the main jet...
Standard jet is #320

Before you start rejetting pull your needle and see if it has even the slightest ring around it....if so then theres your problem....when the needle and seat start to wear out it will make them run rich because of the extra fuel in the bowl....
Also,,,,I run Yamalube 2R in all of my 2 strokes.....mix it at 40/1 and you'll have the best possible fuel....

The needle i'm talking about is the needle and seat that regulate fuel flow into the carb....not the jet needle....
Hey mywifeknowseverything,,,,dont you get an oily goo coming out your pipe from running yamalube at 20/1???

Yeah, a little comming from the head pipe...Nothing too bad though...You run 40:1 huh,,Hows that run???? 20 is what the factory says so that is what I went with...I might try another ratio one of these days but man....Ive had no problems thus far...

Thats what my dealer said to run is 40/1....I tried 32/1 and i had excessive oily goo coming out the pipe.....20/1 is what you had to mix the old type oil at....you know,,,the stuff we had back in the early 80's......Modern 2 stroke oil is much better and you dont have to mix it so heavy.....

Thanks for the help. I have to get gas today so I will try the 40:1 mix now. I am going to take the carb off of the bike tonight and clean it so I suppose I will learn what everything is and I will see if the jet and needle are good and maybe put a smaller jet in. Thanks

I highly suggest buying a shop manual for it....That will walk you thru teardown and give you the specifications for setting the float level and so on....
