Does any one know for sure which of the 250r's head gaskets is the thinnest? Year, model, atc or trx and or Honda part number

Yea, but I've heard the cr head gasket is almost too thin. And that they blow out easy. What is the next step up from them?

i use a 86 atc gasket and drill the rivets out and use one half. you have to check squish though i'm running a 88 jug with a 96 cr head and i'm getting .05
i have 180lbs cranking with this combo

Mark, why the cr head, is it better? In what way? Why not run a "cool" head?

the answer in a nut shell is "it was on the bike when i bought it"
but going further than that, the guy i bought the bike from did extensive testing of different combos. i did get the stock 86 head with it and the dome is very different just by eye i can see there is a lot more volume in the 86. the other thing with the cr heads is that the water spigot is straight up instead of a 90* so you have to mod the hose.
now for the lesson i learned
i completely went thru my motor this winter including sleeving it and the only difference from previous was that i used a stock 86 gasket. when i tried riding it i couldn't believe how much low end i lost . it was so bad the bike would have been useless in connecticut. i called carl the guy i bought it from and he said the gasket would account for this, although i was skeptical. i bought another gasket and drilled it out and installed it. holy crap the bottom end was back!
the only thing you have to do is like kasey said make sure the head AND barrel are flat. the thin gaskets don't tolerate dips, you need to lap the parts which isn't difficult if you think there's any chance of warpage. the other thing i found with my head when i put it on the surface plate is the bolt holes must be lightly countersunk or they tend to have hi spots.
after all this rambling if i was to buy something i'd buy the head from ESR. your usually better buying from someone that specializes in your motor and it uses o rings.:lala:
