I am looking into buying a 83 ATC 250R. I am going to ride it saturday. I have already looked at it. It is all original kinda beat up. The asking price is $1200. But he said he would sell it for $900 cash. It has cracked plastics and just looks really junky it took the guy 5-6 kicks to start it up. Does this seem like a good deal or what?

sounds way to hi.if it looks beat it is. if it has a wiesco piston plan on in melting in a few hours (1 1/2). the gears are the main problem with the 83/84. most the time it,s 3rd. be sure to look over the rear axle real good. check for rust inside the gas tank. as for the pistons dont use wiesco in the air cooled 250r you will be sorry if you do. use a case piston sudco is the only one i,ve been able to get and they only go to .030 . wiesco goes up to .080 , but there over 100 $. there is a trick of drilling lube holes in a piston that will make it last much longer. but unless the bike has been rebuilt new o ring chain new tires shifts like new starts in one kick. prefect tank lights work, good fenders. 1200$ is crazy, 900 $ is just as bad. from what you said i think 300/350 tops. i have two 83 250r,s paid 150$ and 300$ and have put around 2000$ in one (it,s like new but still needs fenders and trans bearings) can only hope we dont melt a piston. save your money and look for a water cooled 250r you be much happier with that. they last longer and dont run as hot, so the pistons last longer.plus you can get more hot rod parts. the engine is the same as a 4wheeler (trx)

Ok no offence to your trike but it looks alot more kept up and "tight". It has junk plastic the rear part only but the motor and everything has no rust or anything. Where can i get that piston for it cuz i wanna put in a piston.

ouch, i guess i need to take some new pics. My 83 has new turf tamers on back, bassani pipe, dg silencer, fresh paint on the tank, uni filter, new tire on front, and runs like a raped ape! but if you really want to pay more for less you can get a piston at any cycle shop. piston is about $100, gaskets, $25, bore job $40, then you need to rejet and tune it. check the brakes on the thing over real well. also check the rear carrier and bearings. that rear carrier is a pain to find a replacement if it is damaged.

hey 700 is better than 1200. if you have to use a wiesco piston there on ebay a lot. just enter honda piston. i,ve bought three wiesco,s and one rocky (case) 75 mm. wiesco prices just went up there around 118.00 no bearing.
