well my shift lever that goes on the shift rod is striped out what can i do to fix this w/o a complete tear down?

if the shaft is stripped dp this. put the shifter on in the right position. tighten it up as tight as you can. take a drill and drill a hole half on the shaft and half into the shifter. tap and thread the hole. now put a bolt in it. shifter is fixed.

I agree but i might add that if you dont have a tap set to thread the hole and all. You can drill right through the shaft and the shifter from like the bottom going up. And then run a small bolt all the way through the shaft and the shifter and then just put a nut on it and you are all done. What ever you do dont have it welded on. It makes them real hard to get a part if you do ever have to work on the tranny or want to sell it.

if you do it fuzzy's way be sure to use a smaller diameter bolt. to large and you will weaken the shift shaft. like the fuz said do not weld it.

thanks 200x and fuzzy for your input i was also thinking of instead odf a nut and bolt using a roll pin(compression pin) it is something i cant make up my mind on

Deffinately do it. If you can drill the hole just big enough to put a roll pin in that would work just fine. And would be plenty stong enough for shifting.
