well after much time and consideration, im just going to bored my 250 out and put a wiseco high compression piston in it. My question for you all is, how much boring is too much for an aircooled motor with no oil cooler that is run for long periods of time? by the way, i am a quad owner, but everyone at this site has been much more helpful then 90% of the people at the quad sites i go to, and this is a 92 250x, but dont hold it against me :p .

Are there any big-bore kits made and marketed for your make/model? If so, any of them SHOULD be okay for you. If you're going to spend a big nut, why not put a 350X motor in it like everyone else does?
Check Powroll's website for info on big-bore kits for your quad.
Hope that helps!

sorry but it didnt, i knew all of that already. i actually have a 350x motor but its gonna cost me more to have it fully regasketed than it will to just get an $80 wiseco piston/ring kit, a $30 gasket kit, and $50 of boring.
im not looking to spend a ton, and im not looking to bore the **** out of my motor either, im just curious how much boring i should go max to not decrease my reliability. That is all that i need to know. (btw, i have friends that can help me put everything in once its bored, thats the only reason its cheaper, because to split the cases and tear a 350x motor apart paying $50 an hour like they want around here id go broke).

personally me I think your money would be much better spent on a exhaust, 400ex carb, 350x intake tube, and if you have the money light porting on the head. Boring alone doesn't make power. I would think 80 over is the most you can go, maybe 120 over, but the sleeve is pretty thin. I was always told, to bore only when you have to and do it the minimuim you have to.

im not boring for power, im boring because im rebuilding it and i want to go just enough to give me a little more power but still maintain reliability. i know i could go 80 over easily, but the motor would overheat and need rebuilt as much as i would run it, so im just looking to go as much as i can without causing it to overheat and reduce reliability. im thinking either .20 or .40, but i dont know if .40 will be enough to cause it to overheat and have problems (ive heard the most you should go without reducing reliability is .40 over).
I think they are good to 80. but I would go with the min of 20.
that way you get two more good bores out of it.

thewre is no such thing as boring for power ,,, you won't notice any difference between .010 to .040 to .080 so don't waste a good cylinder ,, just go up to the next size,,,, maybe 10.25 to 1 compression and thats all,,,,

well ill prolly end up at .20 over then, since when does it not increase power if you increase how much fuel/air are taken in-in each stroke.
Like Kasey Said....you won't notice any difference. He did not say you would not get more power.

oh ok, sorry, i just didnt see the difference in getting more power, but not noticing the difference in power...
