On my 350x the guy who had it before me cut a flap in the top of the air box I don't know why it does have a K&N filter. Do I need a new lid?

it was most likely done to let in more air through the airbox. this equals better power if its jetted correctly and has an aftermarket exhaust. if you dont ride in wet or really dusty conditions, you dont really need one, but if you do, you really do. mine has 9 vents in the lid(the kind they sell in RMATV). the first time i took it out somewhere muddy, the airbox got water in it.

If you ride in dry sometimes, and wet and nasty sometimes, you could just go back and forth between having the lid on or off instead of hacking up your lid...
