I got an 85 tri z and just bought a mikuni TM 36 or 38 flatslide carb the problem is when I go to hook up the intake and airbox boots they don't fit there is too much space between the two boots and the carb is too skinny, I was thinking I would just stick a K&N filter on the back of the carb but after thinking it over I thought not cuz alot of riding I do is big mudholes and lots of water. and that filter just wouldn't be high enough on the bike plus I would have to move the overflow bottle and lots of jerry riggin. I thought about a new intake boot but I don't want to move the carb farther from the motor so I think the only thing I can do is to get another boot from the airbox tunnel to the carb. Where in the world am I going to find somthin like that?
Ok what you will have to do is find a radiator hoss that will fit the carb & fit into the air box hose . Cut off a 1/2 inch wide pease to put on the carb than clamp it.

try finding a auto parts store that sells gates brand hoses. they make hoses for fuel filler necks that go from the filler down to the tank. these are impervious to gasoline and VERY stiff so you'll get a better seal that with radiator hose. they also come in a variety of sizes. You may have to put a little extra sealant around them depending on how close you can get to your size but it sounds like that's what you need. You might also want to try and find a reed spacer if that would help. good luck!

hey the rubber hose works great. on these carb change over often the air horn on the carb willnot be the same size as the old one. so your boot or old filter willnot fit. in our case we willuse phoney k&n,s. which are way bigger than the std 38mm air horn. so go to a plummimg supply or home depot. you may want ask, they all this. it,a rubber coupler. they come with ss clamps. you can get them in wide range of sizes.inculding larger on one end than the other. like 1 1/2 to 2 inch. 2 / 2 1/2.find the size of the air intake and the box or what is going to be connected to you,ve it. we the use a peice of pvc to make a male end. custom air tunnel. my x has a 2" to 2 1/2" then the pvc then a peice of rad hose thats like a s. the s goes around the shock another peice of pvc , air filter with a pre filter. all this is hung from a bolt going though the stock air box mounts. from the bolt i made a ploished hanger. theres 4 ploished hose clamps. the pvc will not show it,s no the inside. it looks pretty decnt when its all put together.of course a guy could use braided stainless.i mean i wish. :bash:
