I only ride in the dunes, and have been setting my mo'sheen up for Halloween. I noticed that my stock airbox (86 Tecate 3) won't work with the Pwk 38 airstriker. I know I can get the boot to fit but there are other clearance issues.......the fuel line inlet points into the airbox, the choke is on the airbox side and no lever is available. I know I can fab something up temporarily but am wondering if I can just clamp a filter and filterskin onto the carb and go? Does anyone run their bike like that? What about running a trick elbow off the carb and clamping the filter on that so that it hangs out the side like a Harley? What do you guys think?

if u clamp it will fall of then u R screwed! so take measure and make a spacer that will go into the boot of the carb and then have the kn filter clamp onto the spacer, pcp pipe or alittle thing of aluminum pcp is at ever hardware store do that and it will work. freind tried just clampin on to the boot on his banshee well its now got a knew top end.
adam :headbang:
just make sure u filter oil the end the filter goes on it will make it stick and stop all sand going in

IMO true kinda of...You want as smooth of airflow you can get going into your motor..If start adding "pieces" without good transitions, your defeating the purpose of eliminateing the airbox? I know/ride with lots of guys with just clamp-on filters, and rarely see filters just pop off.. besides you can hear it when it happens..I mostly ride the OR. dunes and we dont have a 'dust' issue, grains of just sand arent even going thru the prefilter.. I rode in glamis for 10 days and we changed filters every day.. bring spares:D

UPDATE!! I ended up using the stock Tecate airbox elbow and filter mount. Everything is in the same position as stock but the airbox itself it out of the picture. I ordered a K&N today for it but there is not a filter skin available for my application......Should look like an old muscle car airfilter, just smaller diameter.......coool

if you need a prefilter, go buy some black pantyhose and keep them in your tool kit, if its too dusty, just cut a lenght and tie it on. i caught the ankle high ones on sale one time at shoe carnival for $.05 a pair. they work great for keeping charcoal in a aquaruim filter too. :D :D

I got back lastnight and wow what a weekend......I didn't get to leave until around 11am Saturday and didn't got to Glamis until around 3pm. The green machine ran really well. I guess I'm a pretty good mechanic after all.....lol. I have a few minor bugs to work out but all in all I am very pleased. I didn't dune much since it is a new top end(and I didn't have much time). I did drag race my buddies new tricked out( I guess) yfz 450 on flat land and pulled away without any effort and even caught up to him when I gave him a little head start. I hope to do more riding when I go back in a few more weeks.....
