i cant find any to replace mine and i was told that the 86-89 trx pivot works bearings would not work. any advice?

http://www.calatv.com/index.html has the factory Honda parts but at factory prices.

i have bought two sets on ebay one for $18 the other for $24 , thats where i would go,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Well I had no trouble getting a pivot works set for mine..........

do you have a part number and the supplier?
'85/'86 ATC's and '86/'87 TRX's share the same Pivot Works kit.
In fact, my Kodak Picture CD should be in either Monday or Tuesday. There are pictures of the Pivot Works package as well as installation of bearings.
You can't read it, but the top white tag says:
Swing Arm Bearing Kit
PWSAK-H15-020
Honda
TRX 250R (85-87)

This is what happens to the pivot bolt, pivot collars and bearings when you don't pull everything apart once a year to clean and apply a new coat of Anti-Seize:
