I have a 85 200x. I put a white bros cam (wb277),fabricated 300ex exhaust, keihin pe28mm carb. Runs great up to half throttle, then black smoke pours. I know it is rich. But I was hoping someone has done same/similar mods. It has a 155 main, 58 pilot. Any help is appriciated.Thanks. I just hate to buy 5 or so different jets just to get right. They can get expensive.......

a 155 jet is WAY to big ... try like umm 130 maybe 135 or so .... stock is like 108-110 .. plus you have a bigger carb .. hmm just try a 135 or so i would say .. this is an estimate... onkly way to know is a plug chop.

i ran a 28 pe for awhile and never got it straigtened out. i decided to put the money in the f/s which stinks cause the pe fit alot better. they both have ups and downs the biggest advantage to the pe is parts availablity they only offer 1 slide for the f/s which isn't right for my conditions. if you want the pe to run on that bike your going to have to spend alot of time and MONEY. thinking it's a main jet problem will only frustrate you,it's not that. what did the carb come on originally? your going to have to start playing with needles ($10) and slides($70) to get that thing to work right.
without changing slides and playing with needles only i got it to work ok in 2/3's of the power band it either worked on top or the bottom. when it didn't work on the top it completely cut out like the switch was off. i probably had a good $120 in the pe before i stopped with it i also bought a new take of from a 80cc 2 stoke that i never got to playing with. i had about 15 hrs into the pe.
let me know if you want the #'s i had a little sucess with.

Well. First of all....I have installed jets in carb...But have not installed carb back on bike again. It will be Sat before I can test it out.
I was going to use a mikuni vm28 to begin with...But the parts for them seemed like double of the Keihin. Just jets, needle, needle jet, float valve, gaskets was well over $60. As for this PE, I bought it off Ebay.....$36 for carb. Has been used, but very clean. The jets I listed earlier was what was in it when I got it. So far with the jets I just bought and price of carb...$49 is all I have in it. If the jets works...then that will be all....
Thank all of you that is/has respond(ed)..I will Keep you informed. It may be Sat night or Sunday. They are calling for snow here in NC this Sunday night...So I hope everything will be good....I want to ride in it..lol....Missed last year..
Later all...Thanks again....

Well....I installed carb today.....Runs great..Runs a hair rich at dle still...but it does idle,no black smoke...I put a 130 main, with a 45 pilot... A friend of mine gave me a 40 pilot today.. He had it in his tool box... I may try it later. I will enjoy riding it right now though...It does have a slight bog about 1/4 throttle setting still...but cant really feel it under a load.
It seems to have alot of power..But haven't got to really try it out...
Thanks for the info everyone..
I will put the front brakes on tomorrow..Only have rear now.. I am going to check valves tomorrow to...has slight tick on exhaust side valve cap.

I don't have any pics yet....I hope to take some this coming weekend...I hope to have some "action" photos. I am still working on the plastics. They are stock, but I am trying to fix a few cracks. If I keep the bike awhile, I will powder coat frame and put Marier plastics on it.
I am also trying to make a grab bar. The stock one is bent bad. All the ones I have found are well out of my price range.
I am checking into a 87 200x.The guy says its rough. I'm not sure if it is wort fixing or parting out.I am suppose to look at it some time in the next 2 weeks. He says it misssing the rear brakes, smokeed when he parked it,Front tire keeps going flat..So I will see.
My friend has a xr200.We are supposed to line them up. It is stock. so I should be able to keep up or out run him..lol
