heres a couple for you guys looking in my HONDA SHOP MANUAL FOR AN 81 250r i see they had drum brakes on the rear my 82 has disk. is mine original ?almost all of the parts ive bought for it say 81 or 82 250r i was under the impression they were the same. what else is different?

question 2:
stock gear in the back is a 44 tooth i have a 41 tooth on it now if the front was not changed what does that do i have heard it both wasys from numerous people and dont know who to believe...some say it gives me more on the top end and some say more on the low end.also what does it do if i add one tooth in the front with the 41 in the rear?

if my 82 is much different than an 81 i got a book to trade...lol

Here is the correct scoop on sprocket changes.

Bigger in the front / smaller in the back produces a higher ratio and more top speed, with a reduction in low end. When you do this for everytime the motor goes around, the tires go further.

Smaller in the front / bigger in the back produces a lower ratio and less top end, with a increase in low end. When you do this f9or everytime the motor goes around the tires do not go as far

The only differances between an 81 and 82 are the rear brakes, swingarm chain wear block, kill switch and the front disk. 81 is solid 82 has drilled holes.

Here's a good article on how gearing works. It applies to bicycles but it's the same principle.
