need help

i know this isnt the tech page, but ill get more exposure here so please dont move it dan!:hail: i picked up a suzucki 125 4-wheeler (yes , a 4 wheeler) . but im assuming it's got the same engine as the 3-wheel version so i figure someone could help. anyways, first gear slips and wont grab. 2nd gear is not even there. 3rd and 4th are fine and so is reverse. what the heck do i need to do? this thing runs perfect and i dont wanna junk it.im assuming it's an 80's model but im not sure on the exact date. PLEASE HELP!!! my nephews are very anxious to get their hands on it. thanx a million in advance.john.

It might be a bent shift fork. Does it go in to first but the clutch slips?. Or does it not go in to first at all?.

I have an alt 125, and the tranny works perfect, including reverse. I also have the book for this model if you need any specifics. there are lots of repair manuals on e-bay for about 10 bucks.

ya i dont know how it ended of here. guess i,am lost in a pill of parts. i,am doing a vw trans, a vw motor and a new 250r motor all to ready for sand fest. ina weekand a half. still waiting for rods for the votwagun, and the heads. they say the rest of the bearings will be here today for the 250r. replacing every bearing inside the case, on this one. want to see if we can get all those little noise,s out of it. you know the one,s i,am talking about.

Yep i know the ones. It will be a new motor again when you get it all back together. Whast kind of mods are yo doing to the Volkwagon motor?.

okay, heres what is happening with the suzucki transmission. the first gear doesnt just slip, but it pops and grabs. moves only inches at a time. when i click down to second, there is nothing. it is just like nuetral. 3rd and 4th are just fine. super low (click up one) is also perfect and so is reverse. do you still think it may be the shifting fork? i really need some help here. this thing runs perfect and starts first pull every single time. it also idles all day long without skipping a beat. transmissions are the one thing that i know nothing about. if i dont get it fixed, ill have to let it go.
what do you think the shop would charge to fix it compared to doing it myself? please help, there are children waiting to ride it!:cry:

I still think it could be. Did you drain the oil out of the tranny?. You might want to do that and then pour the oil out of your drain pan and look for metal pieces or shavings. If the drain pan comes out clean with no metal chunks or pile of metal shavings. Then i would say something might be bent.
