What is the name of this tool? And is it a one size thing or do I need a certian size? I assume both the clutch and oil passage use the same one? Thx Jen

I MADE MY OWN TOOL WITH A SPANNER WRENCH TO ADJUST A BEARING CARRIER AND JUST DRILLED 2 HOLES IN IT FOR THE 4 OR 5 POST ON THE INNER CLUTCH HUB. IF THATS THE TOOL U R TALKIN ABOUT???

I just want to buy one. It takes the clutch nut off. And the oil passage looks like it is the same size.

The clutch nut? I've done two clutch replacements on 350X's. The first time, I tried to hold the clutch basket and ended up breaking a finger off of it. DON'T DO THAT!
The second time, I used an air impact, and it came off no problem, without even having to hold the clutch in place. I did smash the tabs down first on the retainer plate.
Hope that helps.

The 85 200x requires a special tool. I have done a search on the boards and all they say is special tool. I just need the name, or even part number of this tool. it is some 4 prong thing.

There was one for sale on EBAY the other day(don't remember for how much)
I made my own with a die grinder and an impact socket but the honda part number for the tool is;
Lock nut wrench, 20x24 mm 07716-0020100
I do believe Dennis Kirk sells the now as well.

I bought it today. Cost $10 so I didnt think that was too bad. The only hiccup I have now is my impact is 3/8 and this is 1/2, and I dont have an adaptor. One more delay.

You can grab and adapter at Home Depot or Lowe's. In a pinch, I've used a non impact adapter....it'll work fine as long as you don't use it for an extended period of time.

I got the adaptor Glenn at home depot. I looked everywhere on both of these nuts and I see no lockdown. Can someone verify if that is true? Before I put air to it. Now before you yell at me for not having the manual, I am suppossed to have one the way.

There is no lock down, put a penny in between the meshing gears to keep things from turning while you loosen the nut.
There is a special tool to keep the clutch basket from turning but a penny works just fine since its soft and doesn't damage the gear.

Thank you very much!
I actually figured out a trick lets see if it works. But the Special tool fits perfectly inside of the clutch holder thingy the one with the 4 springs, (cant remember the name right now). Snug down all 4 bolts locking the tool inside. Seems to hold it still by hand. We shall see with air.

Ok I am having no fun at getting either of these bolts loose. I have thrown everything at em. Tho Brian says impacter is not strong enough. What am I missing? Clutch is locked down, the engine is locked down.

I don't know what else to tell ya. All I did was stick a penny in the gears to lock everything up and used a breaker bar to loosen mine. I think both nuts are only torqued to 29-36 ft lbs so I'm really confused on way an impact wouldn't work for you.

No not yet, Hubby tried as well. Then I got distracted. So it sits on top of my desk. I pulled my 2nd engine out. and now it sits till I can spend a solid day on it. I am gonna remount the bottom end. and see if I can use the trike itself against it for leverage. If that dont work then I will pay. I drug home another toy over spring breaak that needs my immediate attention, plus I need to finish a couple things on the tecate before I throw it in the paper, and this poor thing gets pushed back.

So whats the new toy. And what needs immediate attention.
Sounds impo'nt.
I have to put a two foot pipe on my 1/2 drive on some of them.

Just a thought....
Do you know it is reversed threads?
To loosen it, turn it clockwise. :D
(I'll double check my manual today just to be sure :))
jenndnn3

as far as I know they are normal.

Your Right.
I just looked at the manual and it says that the autoclutch locknut is reversed. So yes, the special nut thing is normal.

Ok well I got engine #2 split no problems. Engine # 1 still will not budge with it it mounted, so off to dealer it goes. Engine # 3 Goes next.
Update, engine #1 full of metal, good kicker
Engine #2 bad kicker, it is the spring and the little silver round thing the spring sets in that is gone. Collar I think it is called but dont quote me on that.
Engine #3 xr parts donor. Poor guy, feel sorry for him.

How difficult is it to get those innner cases apart Jenn?
jenndnn3
04-04-2005, 11:52 AM
It was real easy, once clutch was off. You dont even have to pull the flywheel. Unless you need to.
Glenn
04-05-2005, 01:10 PM
That's good to know. Was it easy to keep all the gears together?
jenndnn3
04-05-2005, 01:12 PM
Lay flywheel side down, clutch side up. Pull apart. everything except kickerpart stays together.

The last engine, the one that started this whole thread is now apart. The metal looks to be from a previous thrown timing chain which tore up a part of the case on the inside. That part now sitting exposed looks to be eaten by the bearing that rides there as well. This is just what it looks like, I am speculating. The bearings on it as well as the crank shaft looked to have had moisture. This engine was now very obvious from a previous split. Gasket too new. I just suspected before. Jesus if your gonna take the time to split clean the flippen chewed metal up. What took the nuts on the clutch and oil was pure and simple heat. I took a propane torch to it in last ditch effort before it went to my hero's the dealer, and they came right off. I used my impactor and whats wild is I didnt even have to lock the clutch down. Tranny and kicker in this engine are good. everything else, well....
