I need some help. Correct me if I'm wrong. I just rebuilt the engine in my YTM 200e. Now in order for it to be in correct timing when I put it back together the stroke needs to be at top dead center and the t mark on the cam wheel should be aligned with the mark on the timing housing before securing the timing chain. Is this correct?

If this is correct. How do I tell if the engine is at top dead center? Reason I ask is because when I placed the cylinder back on the bottom end I know I moved the piston. I then placed the head on and started attaching everything and stopped because I got to wondering if it was going to be in time. How do I know if it is going to be in time and on top dead center now?

Please help,

There should be a mark on the crankshaft that says tdc. If not take a small piece of wire or a thin screwdriver and stick it in the spark plug hole. And slowly turn the crank until it pushes the wire or screwdriver all the way up. When you get past the top you will see the screwdriver start to go back down. So stop there when the piston is at its highest point. And set your cam. And try it. If it dosnt want to start. Do the same thing with a wire or screwdriver and get it back at tdc. Then pull your cam gear and rotate the engine one turn until the piston comes back up again. Then put your cam gear back on. But it is usally easy to hit it the first time. Because you should feel air rushing out when you are on the compression stroke.

LOOK RIGHT ON THE ON TOP OF THE BOTTOM END NEXT TO YOUR PULL START & YOU'LL SEE A BIG SCREW HEAD TAK IT OUT & ROTATE YOUR CRANK UNTIL YOU SEE A STRAIGHT LINE OR T.D.C. THE LINE WILL LINE UP WITH ANOTHER LINE CASTED IN THE BOTTOM END, THAT IS T.D.C. & MAKE SURE THE TIMEING CHAIN SPROCKET IS LINED UP CORRECTLY WITH THE LINE ON THE HEAD.
