The factory manual gives two different settings for the pilot. :wtf:
In the "Specifications" settings, it lists the pilot setting (for after 1983) as "1 and a 1/2 turns out." In the "Fuel System" section, it lists (for after 1983) the pilot setting as 2 and a 1/4 turns out.
Which is right? I have to rev my machine a bit to keep it started when it's cold out. I have the pilot set for 2 and a 1/4 turns out. I'm wondering if that's too rich?

Clymer says 83 1 3/4 turns out 84 and on 2 1/4 turns out. Also needle jet 3rd groove on 83 and 4th groove on 84 and up. 83 carb should be a PD62A and 84 on a PD62B. 83 main jet 110 84 on 108 main jet.

So far, seems that 2 and 1/4 is correct.......

One way to find out is warm up the engine and turn the pilot screw in 1/4 turn every minute until the engine dies due to lack of gas and then back screw out 1 turn.
Tried that once when I had the stock carb and it was right at 1-3/4 turns out for my 1983 just like both clymer and honda manuals state.
There are actually quite a few typos in the official HONDA manual that I have.

Thanks Jeff! It's always a challenge when you get two different settings in a manual.

I read it too fast. ;)
Most usually have to do with the slight differences between the 1983 and the 1984-1985 years. At least, that's what I've found.
Anyone know what size the stock pilot is on my 200X? That's one thing I could not find in the book.

The stock pilot jet size listed on www.powersportspro.com for an '83-'85 is 40.
My stock '83 carb had 40, I just checked.

Jeff, awesome! Thanks again!
What's the next size up?
I don't think my stocker has anything stamped on it noting the size.

42 would be the next bigger size, pilot jets for Keihin carbs go in the following order;
35,38,40,42,45,48,50 etc
For your carb you want the '21 series' keihin pilot jets.
