Hi Pomona, stock size was 23.5 x 8 x 11. I would reccomend buying the stock ohstu tire from service honda for the 86 model, or the stock 23 inch size for the 86 250r. (the 23.5 may be discontinued, but the 23 and 24 aren't) Its around 40 bucks. The only similar aftermarket ones I know of would be something like the front max.

I have the stocker on mine, but it's a bit worn. I'm also interested in hearing what peoplehave luck wtih. So far, what waterpumper recomended is what I'm leaning towards.

I have called all the bike shops here in Colorado and they do not have any of the stock size so I think I might go with the 24 inch.

the 85 honda tires were to the best of my knowledge all dunlops. The 200x stock front had more of a simple block pattern to the tread. I know for a fact this tire is discontinued, however, cheng shin and nan kang makes one very similar. I have one of these I got off ebay I'm going to run on my 85 250r. So there are a few options out there. Here is a link showing the tire I'm talking about

http://www.tiresunlimited.com/nankang_atv_tires.htm

the style is the c832 on the chen shing, and the N701 on the nankang and looks like they still have the 23.5 size even. I personally would want either the ohstu, or this one, the kenda front max is another choice alot go with, whatever you do, don't go with a mud tire on a sport trike, like i see alot of people do. I have seen people go with this tire, and isn't quite as bad on a utility machine.

I found another decent looking one from dunlop, it isn't like the 85 style, looks more like the ohstu style, but might be a good alternative the kt 576

Waterpumper. I ended up going with the chen shing. It might not be the best tire but it was cheap and in the right size. I had to order it in form Texas so it should be here by friday. The one I have on there is a nan kang. It cost me 52.00 bucks not to bad.

cool, we ought to get a list up of all the tires that would work well on the front of our trikes, and make it a sticky, or put it in the tech section or something. Maybe find some for the bigger tired bikes like the big red etc. I know awhile back I was helping someone look for 20" rear tires for a t3, so they had to be on 10" rims. Those are few and far between too, but bridgestone makes a nice one, that came stock on the lt500 quadzillas. I think more people would buy tires at least for the front of their trikes that were more appropriate if they just knew they could still get them. I see tons of 250rs and such on ebay with super agressive mud tires on the front, makes one want to cringe lol.

Jenn beat me to it.

That is a perfect subject for a Tech Tips thread.

mad max, what is the honda part number on that tire and how did you find it? I have a 24 ohstu myself, that I got used, but I can't figure out what machine it came on stock. The R's had 23's, which you can still get as well I think, but the 23.5 like came on the 200x's and 350x' is now discontinued.

My 350x came with a n701 nankang and what a pos.The front max is a good tire.Wherever you find the cheapest tire, then go to dennis kirk, and they'll beat the total shipped price by a buck.

The p/n is Honda 44710-HA5-672AT. It was listed on partsfish as an optional front for the 200x. I ordered it from Service Honda, cost me $42.95 Its a Ohtsu H Trak.

A few weeks ago, someone posted a link on trikeheaven.com about factory Honda tires. It no longer works, but I did look at the 200X tire choices. They no longer make the stocker front for the 200X, but they did make a "similar" tire. My guess is that's what MadMax has.

Well the 86 250r stock tire would be just as similar. The tread pattern on them is all identical. I guess what it boils down to is whether a person wants to go up to a taller 24" tire, or down to a 23". I have a 24" I'm going to put on my 350x which will be mainly used in the woods etc, but I don't think I'd want one that big on my 250r.

I have a 84 250r with a 83-85 200x front wheel. I'm running a Kenda Front Max. 23.5 X 8 X11 costs around $40 at rockymountainatv.com

'pumper, I measured the 24 compared to the 23.5 stocker that I took off of it (was dry rotted) and there was no measurable difference in diameter. I doubt you'd notice any difference on your R.
