Hello Hello

On my 200s, it seems like it takes a few seconds to fully engage the clutch going from 2nd to 3rd. It does the same thing (sometimes) from 1st to 2nd. Could the centrifigal (sp?) clutch be going bad or just the clutch plates?

Also, when I go up hills, the engine will rev up but the tires arn't really spinning (just moving like normal) and I don't want to shift down holding the gas cuz I fear it might smoke the plates if those are what is wrong.

I've got replacement clutch plates but i'm wondering if those are what I need to replace or if the centrifigal (sp?) clutch needs replaced.

Any question/clarification please say so. Thanks.

That is a plate problem. The centrifical clutch is only a factor in getting going from a dead stop. Sure sounds like you need a new clutch. IMHO needs new springs too.

ATCNut, Thank you very much. Are you talking about the 4 springs that are in the "inside" of the clutch plates? If so, how tight am I suppose to tighten those down? I cant seem to find anything about how far down they need to go in my manual (Clymer).

Thanks again for the help!

Those are the springs I am talking about. I am in Huntsville Alabama, so I have to do this from memory, all my books are at home.

I think the springs are around a post, and you tighten the bolts until they hit the post. One of the oldschool, around the campfire tricks to get a clutch through a riding trip is to put washers under the springs. This compresses the springs and provides more pressure on the plates. So, in other words, tighten the bolts until they stop.

I will be back home on friday, I can check a manual then if need be.

To test your clutch pack. On automatics
while riding push down on shift peddle lightly. This will disenguauge the clutch pack. eng. RPM will go up. Release peddle.
You will feel the clutches slip and lock up. If not replace clutches.
if you feel the clutch pack lock up the cantrafuge clutches are bad.
