I would also say its got to be something in the valve train. Like maybe a adjusting nut came off and fell into the valve keeping it open. Pull the little valve adjuster plugs off the head and look down in there. And make sure every thing looks right. And then try turning it over slowly and see if you can find the problem. If the piston stops on the way to the top. It is probable something in the valves.

Yup i ll agree with fuzzy that definatly sounds like valvetrain. also ck the plug for broken pieces. if every thing is ok by sight then youll be needing a gasket set with your new valves & guides. O & possibly a piston. if theres a chunck missing from yours. but lets hope not cuz thats 2 -3 hund $$$$$$$$$$ !!!!

Good point Dan LOL. I just figured if it had electric start it had to be a 4-stroke. And the info is pretty much the same no matter what size.

And Kyle i dont blame you for taking it to a shop. It can cost more money and more headaches trying to fix stuff yourself sometimes.

the bike is a 1985 250es big red. i am gonna take a look at it again today cause i really would like to cut down on the time the bike spends in ther shop cause it is like55 dollars an hour and that is a lot

Pull the valve cover of . I think you will find a spring or valve broke. If it turns over but is hard in one spot but it goes past it , than it is pushing the valve closed. that would tell me its a spring.

i pulled the head off it and the camshaft was broken. there are two ears on the camshaft that have wholes in them for the cam gear to bolt on and one of the ears had broken off. i took off the side cover and i found the two bolts and the missing part from the cam gear.so i took the head off and i have to replace a bent valve.the piston isnt scratched that badd and i didnt score the cylider so i am in good shape there as far as that goes all i got to do now is put it back to gether with a new cam and valve.who knows what a cam cost?

Cams are spendy but for some reason the cam for the bigred is fairly cheap. Partfish list the cam at $69.35. So you should be able to get every thing you need for it for around $100.00. Good to hear that the cylinder was fine. And that you decided to fix it your self. :headbang:

the main reason i decided to do it my self is that the shop raised there prices on me again. it is up to 70 dollars an hour for mechanical work and like75.99 for electrical.(wireing and lights)
i was like, I TRY TO FIX IT MYSELF
plus the way i figure it you leart from your misstakes so if i screw it up i will fix it again . i will just learn thed hard(and exspensive way)
