How do you distenguish 200x years?

The frame is a key clue. 83-85 were round. 86-87 were square.
83-85 had red fenders. 86-87 had white. 83-85 had 5 speed. 86-87 had 6. 86-87 has decompresion, 83-85 does not.
Vin's will tell all.

Some miner differences between years unique.
87 has a key.
86 does not.
85 blue seat. Blue shock spring
not sure what color seat on 84. I think black. I think this had red shock spring but could be wrong.
83 swing is different from 84 85, somehow but cannot tell you exactly what that is. 83 seat I believe is black

also the 83 has a round tube swingarm.

On some 83's, I beleive they used a white, light gray dipstick.

Jenn your correct on everything that you said and also if you can see the tank the wing stickers on the tank are white and redish orangish. hope that helps

83 and 84 have black seat. 85 has blue seat with 200X on the side.

So, if a 200x is stock:

You can tell a 83 by the red fender, black seat, round tube frame, and the round tube swinger.

84 by red fender, black seat, round tube frame, and square tube swinger.

85 red fender, blue seat, round tube frame, and square tube swinger

86 white fender, blue seat, and square tube frame.

87 is same as 86 except it has a key.

There are also decal differences between the years.


The easiest way is to look at the sticker on the frame.

Another difference is the fork boots, 83-84 are black and 85 is blue.;)

it would be easies tto look on the steerign stem and the vin will tell you. the 10th letter back will tell u the year,

d is 83
e is 84
f is 85
g is 86
h is 87
