what kind of gain i could expect from both cylinder and cranckcase p&p on my 84r.
any help would be really nice.

the cylinder will be the most noticed gain, the case is just for better lube really, nothn like more case pressure thats case stufferes, so i say just port ur cylinder not ur cases, only do the cases if ur going above 230 psi for longivity wize.

if you port the transfer ports, you should ALWAYS port the cases to match the cylinder, otherwise that air/fuel will hit the casting lip on the cylinder, most places charge $40 for this, be sure to trim the base gasket to match as well

The cases and cylinder ports all work together. To learn more about 2-stroke applications I would recommend www.macdizzy.com
As to "polishing", the pros now intentionally make the ports with a rough surface. Think golf balls and you will realise why.

I have heard that it is best to rough up the intake and polish the exhaust so now I am all confused:shrug: .

Thats what hes saying, the intake you dont smooth out (polish). instead you leave it rough so it swirls the air, mixing it better with the gas, giving it a more consistant mixture.

i was asking this cause i can get the crankcase p&p also and i wanted to know if it would be usefull enough. like ridetrikes250R said i may not need it for 230 but i'm going for 210psi approxx. so it may be usefull. thx for all the input guy i really appreciate.
btw the p&p will be done by one of my friend who did and still do p&p on Kart. he only charge me 100-120$ can for the whole thing and matching the gasket also. i think it's approxx. 80-95$us
