well if you put a k&n on it won't do much, and i'll have to rejet to compensate, i hope someone else out there has a few tricks. thanks!!!

i just put a brand new original muffler on mine about two weeks ago because my old one was preety bad and found it had alot more acceleration so if yours is bad you might want to try that:shrug:

Once agian, THE BIG RED IS NOT MEANT TO BE A SPORTS TRIKE, if you want to blow by your buddies, 350x, tri-z, 250R, or Tecate will get the job done. After market performance parts are scarce for these utility trikes, there is a reason, bigreds arnt meant to go fast. As far as acceleration smaller tires. It is only 250cc's and it only has 2valves, there is not much to be done with that.

if i put a 250r or a350x or a tri z against there big red's it wouldnt realy be a fare race now would it  i put my big red against there big red's because it's the same kind of bike .

How does one put this.......
You have several problems facing you in adding performance to this trike.
#1 availabilty in parts.
#2 it is a "work" trike
#3 Isnt this baby a shafty? So sprocket will be out.
#4 did I mention parts availability?
Out of all the trikes to beef, this one may very well be the hardest.

exactly why i want to make it better. everyone and anyone can mod a 250r, sure they can cuz its been done a million times. i always try to go for the different things. if i had the time and money, i'd mod out a garbage truck just so i could say "i modded out a garbage truck" get where i'm commin from?

Well fab up a 350x swing-arm to it and put a 350X motor in it, that would be a good mod.

http://www.webcamshafts.com/ makes a camshaft for it, look under 250sx same motor as the red then ther is uni or k&n filter you can bolt on too.....thought wiseco made a piston for them but looking on there website they dont anymore....EDIT: i just looked at denniskirk they have a few things for em hear http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/mmy.jsp;jsessionid=E220D5EKJR4UDLA0WTKSM4VMDK0NKIV0?store=Main&catId=1&make=24&model=1062&year=1985&redirect=true&exec=true&add=true&_requestid=83710
but really the best thing you can probably do for the bike is freshin it up with a rebuild, god knows with a 20 year old trike it could probably use it, regrind the valves, if you wana splurge on the money you could get the head ported, bigger valves....

Up the compression. Always works! (just more wear and tear on the starter)
Cam changes will pose compromises. More top end will sacrifice the bottom end. Keep that in mind. On the plus side, if You do both, a radical cam overlap will make it easier to start.

what if i swapped the motor out, what motor would fit in place of it? get rid of the brake drum on the front, put disc brake on the rear with a different axle (durablue or lonestar...) new shock (what shock should i get?) rebuild front forks, higher stator, new coil and plug wire, powdercoat, powdercoat, powdercoat, and what tires (front and back) would you put on it? anything else? thanks!!!

there are aftermarket exhaust, but I don;t think any of them are that good. I have the cobra utility. its also less then a year old and covered in rust.
removing the air box lid can give a boost, but not if you ride in water. there is the after market cam. you could always try a bigger carb.
I'm going to try and get my 34mm vm mikuni of my scrambler to work when my new carb arives for the scrambler.
also there are taller gears, the ring gear is defferent in the 250sx. the big red uses a lower gear to compensate for the 25 inch tire.
I run 22 inch tires on the back of my red, I lost some ground clearance but it handles much better and increased acceleration.
A big red will never run with a tri-z etc. but I have mine running with 400-500 utility quads and thats all I want it to do.
hell theres time a friends on my big red in the woods and I can't catch him on my scrambler and its farily modded.
just my 2 cents.
how much can be shaved off the head to run 93 octane? 0.20 thousands? I'd like a 12 to 1 compression ratio. Does the cam chain have to be shortened?

Shaving weight usually helps too. Best ways to shave some off:
- Front and back racks
- Headlight and guard
- Trailer Hitch
- Yourself
Also, you could pick up a set of aluminum rims, lose the skid plates, and possibly even put a different front end on with a narrower tire.

plastic gas tank wouldn;t hurt either.

well if it was the 200 you could do the same engine work as a 200x...and you can pipe it and jet it...thats about the most...other than sprockets..since you have the 250 i dunno
