I have seen a few threads metnion putting the 200S motor into 200X frames. What is the main purpose of this, to get a 200X with an auto clutch? Also, it is relativiely easy to accomplish? I/ve got an 84 200S that I am returning to running condition (slowly but surely). The thing is that when it was new (four hours old!) my oldest brother hit a car head on with it bending and cracking the frame just below where the forks pass through. It was heated, straightened, and welded up. Several years later, the frame let go completely at that same point. The remedy for this was a freind welding a 6" piece of 1/4" angle iron to where the frame broke to hold everything back together and strengthen it. It worked, but is very ugly and the frame geometry is slightly off. This causes a shimmy at high speeds on hard surfaces like pavement (not that I ever ride on roads, heh, heh). Besides at 30 years old, I am not sure how much I will enjoy aggressive riding without rear suspension in the rocky terrain of eastern Connecticut. I'd be interested in some opinions on a conversion.

In your case a 200x conversion might be just the way to go. The 200s had front shock`s but they are not very good. So by moving up to a 200x you will have good full travel front and rear shock`s. The 200s motor dosnt put out as much power as a 200x motor but it does give you the auto clutch. Which is nice in the woods and tight driving area`s. Where a clutch can be jumpy. As far as the motor goes it should go right in with out any frame mod`s. But you have to rig up something for the rear brake. Because the 200x brake mount is on the motor not the frame like a 200s. If you can find a old 200x to put your motor into. It would be a lot funner ride. And you could always put a 200x motor back in it down the rode if you find one for the extra horsepower. I am 39 and i didnt mind getting rid of my 84 200s at all because it beat the crap out of me. And when you are out riding with quad`s and trikes with suspension you will beat the heck out of your self trying to keep up with them. So i say if your frame is allready messed up anyways i would think real hard about doing the swap.

Will the sprockets line up without any modification? Has the 200X always had disc brakes, front and rear?

The sprokets should line up, and the 200X has always had disc breaks all the way around.

i have a 200s engine in my 200xalso.works great. i DO have rear brakes .all you have to do is takee the brake lever off the 200s and mount it where the foot peg bolts to on the 200x. but you will have to bend it slightly and drill the whole a little larger.you also need a little conecter to go from the pedal to the little arm that pushess the brake piston up.i got this all together in less than two hours.i am a really slow worker. but it works great.
