my R's motor is currently off for cleaning of the lower end my buddy burned a hole in the piston and now little bits of piston need cleaned out of the crank and low end), so i figure while its off i would see if theres anything i can do to give it more hp. the specs on it so far are that its an 86 honda R motor, EVERYTHING but the cases freshly replaced, with an 88 crankshaft (less bearing wear), cylinder spacer plate kit, 275cc national porting kit by ct racing, brand new wiseco piston, new needle cage bearings, new plug, new sprockets, and all new fluids. although i would love to have them, i currently cant afford a stroker crankshaft or 300+ big bore kit, bearing that in mind what are the best ways to up the hp on this puppy? (for future reference, i havent gotten to ride it since the new top end was installed due to my friend dirtying the crank/low end with piston-chunks, but a friend of mine that already looked at it is going to clean it out like new by the end of new week, so i am looking for more upgrades that will increase performance). any ideas guys?

what carb, pipe, and airbox setup are you runnign? You could always get a larger carb, and run a clamp on filter, and change the reed intake setup

does the turbo'd crank really even do anything?

Yes, the "turbo" crank grenades your bottom end if you look at it the wrong way...
Stock cylinders can be sleeved to 310cc, I'm currently @ 295.
Coolhead with custom domes, ESR ATC-5, Kiehin 38mm A/S, V-force reeds, good porting, etc and so forth.

thats a good point, if i had my sleeve machined out to fit a 310cc sleeve, would the cases have to be machined to or would they be ok

I'll Try This Again..........................................................
In the stock "oem" Cyl. the 295 Kit From TRINITY...no case work
the same piston that's in the TRINTY 295 is the same as ALL of
"those" 310 Kit's ....76mm Dia. Piston, Been there ...done that ...
The Only thing is that the "oem" Cyl. GET'S REAL HOT !!!
The "L.A. Sleeve" Cyl's. Stay MUCH Cooler !!,no case work needed
TRINITY offer's a Piston for the "short" or "Long" Rod Aplication
on the Other Hand ... the 330-350 and the 370 Kit's...
the cases need Mod Work ...... Bigger Sleeve Dia.
the cheeper way to go is the 265 kit .... They Are NICE,FAST and
Dependable !! This is the Part i LIKE !!! the 265 kit need's a
YAMAHA TRI-Z or YZ Piston .... Maybe That's why they are just as
fast,IF NOT FASTER and MORE Dependable than the 310's ? :-)

i have a 69.5mm piston in my r (i found out that its been built from the inside out with all new 88 R parts, everything but the topend), which makes it a 275cc'er. its a ct racing cylinder, i cant wait to see how it works out.

i agree with 03 .....
no_doz........ sup. .06-.08 over they "claim" 273 cc ....
but it's just a bored out 250 ... BUT............
if you put a .02 "YZ" Piston with a .125 Plate along with the "88"
Rod........... it's a 265 ... "LEGAL" For the 250 ATV MX Natl. Class
(doesnt matter to me man, just made me think u were someone ur not. to each his own )
no_doz..... i got's a Question ... do you have an ATC or the TRX ?
What Yr.,Swinger Length,Carb. Size,Gearing ,ETC ?

redirects crank case pressure, its really cool... i worked at trinity for a month till they cut back in the sweep the floors department... LOL... anyways, they always showed horsepower gains, weither it be a stock engine being put back with the exception of the turbo mod... but they only get larger gains and more "worth the price" when they went a stage 4 or TT port jobs... its worth doing if you want a duner or running higher Rpms, woods bikes i wouldnt do it on, we never put a turbo crank in a MX bike... it basically works as a turbo... it pressurized the top end and added "boost" without making to many people scratch their heads all just leave it at redirecting the crankcase pressure

Slot's are cut into the Crankshaft with a 1/4" Carbide End Mill..Also they are done with a "KNURLING" Tool ...which look's like the Handle of a Ratchet....That's the easiest way to Knurl them ..the one shown is........... ( Special ) :-)

the FINS are alot taller and father apart on that crank, mostly done because iam almost promising thats a alky motor, or a high octane gas motor... this was to make it boost higher pressure and there for get the full potential of the fuel.

cool, thanx guys. one more question, if i had a bigger sleeve put into my spare cylinder (its bore .80 over but its not being used at all) so that itd be a 310cc kit, where would i get the piston? im talking just have a local shop pop the sleeve out, mill the cylinder, and get a larger pro-x sleeve put in, then where could i get the piston? the largest wiseco sells (atleast listed for the R) is a 69.5mm one (which i currently am running in the one on my quad). are there any pistons that would work but are larger (like a 350r piston or such, just anything that would match the placement/diameter of the pin in an 86 R piston)?

la sleeve makes pistons up to 72mm and once again you might over heat your bike trying to have a stock cylinder cool down a big bore.
