View Full Version : 1985 250sx Front Wheel/Tire Options
Does anyone know what size wheel and tires came on the various 85-87 250sx's? I've heard the 86 87 have a larger front wheel diameter. My 85 uses a 22-11-8 tire. I've seen an 86 front wheel that looks like a 23.5x8x? Anyway, could any of you that own an SX please let me know what the size is of your factory tire/wheel combo is? Or what my options might be if I would like to switch to a taller narrower tire....
Thanks!

All three years sx had a 22x11-8 front wheel. Several people have put 200x front ends onto there sxs, to get the tall skinny tire and the disk brake. I hope to do that upgrade myself.

I have seen one aftermarket setup that put a skinny tire onto the stock sx hub and forks.
The 200x forks have more travel and rebound. They are also taller by about 2 inches. You can choke them up in the tripple clamps if the front is too tall for you

....and the one on "woodo's" (another member of this site)
I'm not sure where they came from but speaking for the one I had it looked more store bought than homemade.
Personally I think you're better off with the 200x front

That's right, I have seen two.
I think the rest of the 200x front end is a good upgrade too. Plus then you have all stock honda parts.

Can anyone tell me what wheel size and tire size is in this photo? I also want to know if this required any modifications or if this was a straight bolt in part.
Please help if you can. Thanks

Madden, I put an entire 350X front end on my SX. The only mod was to weld a steering stop on the front neck of the frame. I also had to slide the forks up the triple about an inch or so to get the front end ride height right. The 350X front end modification was a great improvement to the SX to say the least. I would consider doing this instead.

Thanks,
I'm in the process of buying the parts for a 200x conversion. It won't be quite as good as the 350x but will be nice.
Do you know if the fork tubes, axel, wheel, hub, etc from an 83-85 200x will work with the sx triple tree?
Regarding the original post idea: my research indicates that the front oem wheel has a 4 to 5 offset. Douglas sells a 10x7 wheel with a 4 to 3 offset. This could work perfect without any spacing; however, with the 4 to 3 offset I think it would put the valve stem on the drum side. It may work due to the extra wheel height 10" vs 8" but who knows until you try it. Anyway, I thought I'd share what I found. Due to the unknowns I elected to just snatch up some ebay parts and end up with better brakes an possibly a smoother ride with the x forks.

My 82R originally had a 22-11-8 front tire on it. When I bought it, I figured it was some frankenstein as the seller a few states away said it had a narrow front tire. I personally do NOT like the mixing and mashing of trike parts.... I was pleasently surprised when I saw it as someone back-in-the-day had made a custom adapter plate for it. It had aftermarket rims on it... the adapter ring has the smaller 250R bolts AND the larger narrow pattern tire on it. This trike has quite a history.... short story... guy rebuilt it and took it out on the ORV trails in Michigan. He blew it up again.... so he parks it in his garage. Then it's eventually sold at a yard sale. and that person put it on the boards w/o pics. He sold it to me, and Kintore picked it up for me in MI and dropped off at Trikefest for me. The Michigan title/registration was from 1988. Everyone was happy... the interm yard sale buyer doubled his money, but I still got an original clean trike from back in the day for a song! It had some cool items with it too.... like an original can of Spectro premix in a plastic jug with 250R and Odyssey drawings on it, etc. Anyhow.... it currently has a rebuilt 300R motor sitting in the cradle. Hopefully this fall I'll finish it up intime for some ice drags. It's going to be my Ice Racer, as it was back in the day. Here's some pics...
