The purpose is to be able to switch back and forth depending on where you are going to ride. If you are going to be riding in the woods or off road climbing hills. Then you would want to put it in low for more pulling power for ruff riding. And for standard riding on trails and dirt roads. Then you would want to put it in high for more speed on smooth surfaces. But most people i know just leave them in high. And keep the tranny in first for hill climbing and such.

Also works well for teaching the kids to ride! Then when they're good and switch it to High range.....wow! They think they got a whole new machine! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

i used to use the low gears for making tracks, the low end would dig/chew out burms with easy. then switch it to high gears and have fun. with the low gears ingauged you can climb like a mountain goat. wish they still had the high-low gears on the 200x.

hey that low range work really good for wheelies on my old us 90. when you change from low to high make sure you are at a full stop and that the gears have made a full engagment. or you will be finding , buying and working on a sub trans for sure

HIGH=High End Power (not that an engine with a Hi/Lo switch would have much High to begin with but....)
LOW= Low end Power (Pulling, pushing)
I do not recommend riding around in Low, Low should top off even a 400cc quad at about 35, and a small 200 trike at maybe 15-20. Low is for reaaaal work, not for horseplay.
