I think the gaskets were designed to be assembled dry. If you put sealer on it, it will just squeeze out on the inside and end up in the motor.

the best thing you can do with a pape gasket is to grease the gasket. rub it in good. the grease will act as a bit of a sealer, the gaket will the stay in place as you put things together. the best part is when you take it apart the next time the gasket may still be reusable. we all know how spendy gaskets are.

use hondabond , ask the dealer which one to use
it's kinda expensive but it's alot cheaper than a case vacuum leak

Hondabond is the absolute best thing since the creation of the wheel (as far as sealing things). Coat the gasket with as little as humanly possible but enough to cover gasket on both sides and put it together. I would use HT (Hi temp) on an engine. Some Honda (Car) transmissions use only Hondabond to seal the mating surfaces. Take a look at this page and read about some of the different chemicals. http://www.parkeryamaha.com/hondalube.htm
